Camping tips for newbies

After having a chat with Paul and finding out he's never camped before, here are my hints and tips for happy camping....

Pack after sun lotion as well as sun cream. If you do get burned, you'll be glad of the cooling effects when you're trying to sleep on the floor.

Don't bother with a blow up bed. It takes too much time and effort to get up and if you end up on the slightest slope you'll be spending your night shimmying back up hill rather than actually sleeping.

Practice putting your tent up in you're garden, there's nothing worse than finding out you haven't got a clue how it works at the campsite.

Buy some spare metal pegs and guy ropes (normally can be bought as a complete pack). This is more of a "just in case" measure, cause you never know what might happen after you've (and everyone else) had a drink or two.

If anyone has any advise they wish to share, feel free to add :)

Fire + tent is bad, keep fire at least far enough away too prevent embers drifting into canvas.
If you're on a hill sleep with you're head pointing up it, worst mistake ever.
