Bosch Micra throttle body

Hi,does anyone know if its possible to remove the two cooling pipes from the throttle body and put them into one without the pipes? I'm told its possible but wondered if anyone has heard of it and how easy it is to do,maybe just a simple swap,my throttle body is faulty and has the pipes, the bodys without seem more common. The fault i have is something like "low bank 1 to lean" as i recall, the car does not stall but surges a little and power drop off over 60mph.These things are damned expensive compared to the old type, cheapest reconditioned Ive found doing my old one up is £264 and £500 plus at nissan, barmy.I've changed the Lamda and it made no difference, regards Dave.

Hi,no, my type doesnt have the solder joints, its the post July 2000 Bosch type but I wish it had as a lot easier to repair or replace, the coil pack type engines are more complex(electronics) and seem less reliable according to a nissan breaker i spoke to,ta for comment though.

your fault sounds more like fuel sys lean b1, it could be 3 main things

1, wrong spark plugs fitted as you have a coilpack engine, check that your spark plugs arent ngk bkr5e's these are no good for the coil pack engine as they wear out to quickly and bring up the fault you have,

2, the front oxygen sensor could be dead or dieing, cheaper to replace than the mass air flow sensor,

3, the mass air flow sensor is faulty intermittantly and bringing up that fault, if you find a 5 star security screw driver bit (different to a torx bit) the right size to fit yours then you can change just the sensor and not the whole throttle body and save some money down the scrappy

didnt see you have already replaced the lamba sensor, best check the spark plugs first, then replace the mass air flow sensor,

you should have the fr8dcx spark plugs fitted to your engine, and if people say that the bkr5e's are ok to use then they are wrong i have fixed many post 2000 k11s with that fault just by changing the spark plugs to the right ones, so in other words DONT use ngk bkr5e's in post 2000 coil pack engines

Hi,Thanks very much for your advice,Iv'e changed the front Lambda sensor(May time) as a local garage said that had come up as a fault code and had to use a genuine nissan one(£113)as its an oddball connector only made between July to October 2000,I will try the plugs tommorow as nearly due for changing anyway,I really hope thats the fault, save a lot of money if the case, the car does tend to surge lose power or miss/ hesitate over 60 in 5th gear,if i disconnect the battery overnight the warning light goes out but comes back on but only on higher speed runs(3500rpm-ish) and not round town.As regards the little 5 star security screw, I cant find one, seems a nissan specific tool, tried all the Draper security bits etc and told by a nissan breaker that it was changed from the normal six spline to five so people couldnt mess with them !! could possibly drill them out and replace with tap screws.Light came back on later with this low bank to lean code or as you describe, anyway will try the plugs you suggest, fingers crossed! some breakers wont guarantee a 2nd hand unit at £140 ! am told Almera mass meter is the same(n16 type?)thanks again.

Just to add the car has done 53000,do the throttle bodys normally pack up at a lowish mileage i wonder?

Hi,you were right Fordy my Micra had the wrong plugs, have fitted the Bosch type instead, runs a touch better but the engine check light came on again after 160 miles,(after disconnecting the battery)so looks like air mass meter unfortunately,I bought a scanner for £25 off e-bay,payed for itself first time as Nissan charge a ridiculous £81 for getting the fault code, even local garages are £25+ ish and have saved myself the inconvinience of booking the car in etc, anyway the fault code is or was "PO171 bank one system too lean" i reset the ecu but the code comes back up every 3 or 4 days between 80 to 150 miles so certainly an intermittent fault as you say, thanks for previous help.

Admin Note: ZEPHYR - If you write another post like below it will all get deleted. Don't be so lazy, at least make some effort.

dave thats ur o2 sensor not maf ur maf wouldnt bring up a fault code u sure the front o2sensor didnt help? (ive had exact same problem b4 i experimented with like 3 mafs didnt really make any difference) but £113 thats bit steep the trade price was 45 quid if i remember 4 the o2 sensor
(try going to andrew page n c if u can work something out with them but b prepared 2 get 2 different o2 sensors b4 u get ur connector 1 lol)

right didnt read u changed o2 sensor first but i really say o2 sensor...i had a bad one which made the car misfire realyl really badly also had one that does exact same thing urs does then i opted 4 a new one n it solved problem lol

ur thing bout the cooling pipes by pass them as its actually better 4 car but good luck trying to remove them intact lol i know ive tried lol the tool 4 the maf is a 5sided torx star security bit if i remember

(i know some info is already posted but couldnt b arsed checking so wrote it all down)

^ sorry but wrong

your fault in nissan consult terms is "fuel sys lean b1"

its either your front oxygen sensor faulty or your mass airflow sensor faulty
considering how intermittent the fault is i personaly would say the mass air flow is faulty but with out swapping things you wont know for sure

if your mass airflow is faulty then i can tell you a trick that will save you £400 or more when buying a new mass air flow sensor for your car and you can change the sensor at home in 10 minutes

I said in another thread that I may have somone willing to swap the airflow meter section for some £ with one that works - if your interested. And yes its the bosch type!

Bosch throttle body- 02 sensor

Hi Ed,Zephyr and Fordy, the front Lambda was replaced by myself some time ago as the first fault was that according to my local garage then this second fault code system lean the eobd code P0171.I have an oddball or rarer type Bosch system as my Lambda connector was made between July 2000 to late October 2000,its a dealer only job at a mad £113,Andy Page told me they couldnt get one nor could another Bosch agent, now I think ,the box it came in had no mention of Bosch,I'm sure it was made in the U.S.A. To be honest I'm fed up with the problem but more fed up with Nissan's crazy price's,(£517 afm)all the recondition people do is change the air mass meter insert and splash a bit of paint on it for £274 cheapest i found including posting it to Kent and back, still expensive when V.W. do a much fairer exchange programme on the air mass meter for around £80-110 as they know its a problem with Bosch types.I've now ordered an Almera one,I'm told by a Nissan breaker in Lancashire the insert is the same 2000 on N16 type so for £60(e-bay) for a new one its worth a stab,I know I'm taking the insert out of the Almera pipe/ducting but a lot of the inserts are standard on Bosch and a local garage say a Vectra type one works to.So that might be Fordy's idea?I have the tool to do it and yes a ten minute job,I hope it does the trick, cant think what else it is,Ta for your offer Ed I will get back if the Almera one isnt suitable.it seems the Bosch ones can fail prematurely to say the least,an engineer friend reckons its because the air mass meter is not well insulated from heat and vibration being smack bang on top of the engine where as most cars have them on the inner wing or bulkhead area out of harms away, decent theory, thanks again everyone.
P.S. have tried two second hand throttle bodys and both knackered! (and i might by pass those pipes)P.P.S. universal 02 sensors dont work in these cars run absolutely awful.

air mass meter

I have fit the Almera air mass meter runs ok through the gears, have swapped the air temp resistor over from my micra, was a bit tricky, however the tickover is now a bit erratic, fine with sidelights on and not to bad with headlights but keeps dipping to almost stall point with all lights and electric off, then picks up ok for a few seconds, didnt do this with old sensor so something ive done or perhaps swapping that resistor, has now flashed up another fault code"P0137 02 sensor circuit low volts"(bank 1 sensor 2) I dont really know what that is,any idea's anyone?

Bosch air mass meter

Hi ,Message for Ed,can I take you up on your offer for the air mass/meter insert for the Bosch type body as previously dicussed on here?,let me know how much £ etc,if your not to far away I could travel or do a post if distance a problem,if its a swap if you could send as cant really do without car even though its running badly.
Just a general note for folk on here with throttle body trouble,1)The Almera type sensor doesn't work on the Micra even after swapping the air temp resistor thing from the Micra into the Almera type,it seems to mess up the signalling to the ecu and throws up 2 fault codes,2)The Terrano type air mass insert is completely different and will not fit, period, the connector block facing is very different and physically wont fit,the contact pins are also different and cannot be modified to fit in any way.So dont waste well over £100 like I have on sensors that will not work. £59 plus post Almera and Terrano £40,both off E-bay.
If I had owned a crystal ball i would never have bought a facelift Micra (2000) on,I have had loads of bother despite it having a full Nissan service history, these later ones don't seem durable on several of the components and I have two Nissan breakers confirm this for me saying the electronics/management systems are over complicated and frequently fail, the starter motors on this type are also suspect(went on mine) and are very, very expensive(£222)Nissan only part supplied from Denmark.
Another thing I've noticed even when it ran well when I bought it in January, is they arn't as quick as the older one litre even though they have a bit less power,Iv'e had two M reg ones pass me on the motorway despite me caning mine to try and keep up,they just sailed away into the distance as did an N reg one on a dual carrigeway driven by a young bird near the lakes !
(look forward to hearing from Ed)

i found the box with serial code on for the o2 sensor it has the odd connector u want
so if that other tb ur gonna get off ed dont help mayb this would...
the box has label like this

BOSCH
1 St/Pc
0 258 005 263 760
592 - barcode - 929360
3 -165143 583999 <-(barcode no?)
made in usa - fabrique aux etats unis
robert bosch gmbh, auf der breit 4, D76227 karlsruhe, germany

mine came in a yellow box with red bosch every where with the white sticker label with the info above
im surprized the bosch dealer couldnt find it as its def bosch or from looks of its packaging

thing bout the old 1.0s ive been in a few n thought they were quicker too never took them on motorway but general driving def seemed better
i never had them fly past me on motorway or such but could b due to them being on 13's n something else i dunno at moment

Bosch Air mass and 02 sensor

hi Zephyr,Thanks for info, did struggle with that 02 sensor and tried a few places but ended up at the dealer as it was urgent,Lambda specialist in Goole couldnt get one,he said not listed, the one I got didnt have Bosch written on it or on the packaging, but that problems been resolved just the air mass meter now.
My old Ally 1.0 was quicker than the face lift model as was my Inspiration model,I think it might be down to emmision control or something who knows,I'm going back to one of them when i've sorted this problem out, just seem better built to me.I've driven a hire car face lift to and that was sluggish,so must all be like that.

Dave check your PM box, you will have one from me in a moment.

The rotten sods!

Hello all, I have a Micra S 1.0L 2001 and have been having trouble with it. I've just had the ECCS repaired as there was a burn't out ballast resistor on the line that feeds the MAF sensor. This fault cause the 144 pin chip to have a burnt out line to it so I sent it to Tamar electronics who installed the 144pin chip that has all the code on it onto a new board which fixed that fault. Cost me £136 all in which I was very happy about! Although I had tried ever so hard to find information on the ECCS units (wiring, circuit diags or even chip datasheets) but Bosch seem to have all info closely kept under lock and key! Bas***ds!
I did worry when I plugged the repaired ECCS back in that there would still leave the fault which caused the board to blow and it looks like i'm right, there still is a fault. After plugging in my very good (and cheap £33 incl postage!) OBDII code reader I have P0171 System too lean Bank 1. I have cleaned the MAF sensor but that was new anyway as I replaced that (£50 ebay) when the ECCS went in a vain hope that it was that what had gone. I'm about to change the plugs over and then if the fault remains i'm going to tackle the Lambda sensor. Can anyone tell me if giving these a spray with brake cleaner can do the job and if there is any way of testing them?

can somebody please outline the mechanical problems i.e o2 sensors etc, and where they roughly are, as my 1.0 is guzziling fuel

Hi all, ive ordered a MAF from ebay (for nissan micra) will recieve it hopefully today and let you guys know.

Fordy : whats the special trick?

P0171

I have been having the same problem with the recurring P0171 fault code.
After spending nearly £500 at the local Nissan garage, who replaced both O2sensors and the catalytic convertor I decided it was time to try to fix it myself. Following the threads here, I have checked the O2 sensors with a OBD reader and they are OK. I've replaced the spark plugs, with Bosch type, and fuel filter, air filter. Is the MAF sensor the next thing to change, and if so are the ones on Ebay (circa £40) OK ? Thanks

Sorry to dig an old thread up, but i came along this after a search. I had a new TB fitted a while back to a 2000 Micra 1.0, after fitting it i got the PO171 code. What is this trick Fordy mentioned about the MAF sensor?
