Better engine?!

simmo

Official micra geek!
Just wondering what sort of options I have for directly replacing my K10 1.0L engine?

Could i possibly fit a K11 engine in to my K10?

Its possible, never been done though. Will require some work but not great amounts if you change to k11 brakes beforehand. I was planning on doing it but may just stick with the MA12 instead for now. :)

is an ma12 just a standard K10 1.2L engine? If so how much difference is there between the 1.0L and 1.2L? Do you think it would be worth while doing it?

unfortunately for some, the cg13 into the k10 has been done :(

It would be worth while, but if u want something on a budget, probly the MA12 beacause it is a direct replacement. It has more power, but not as much as the CG13 from a K11

ah right. Thanks for that, its a help. We shall just have to see what i come across in the future..

drop a ma12 engine in, wont cost much at all and you wont have to change anything! well worth it as the 1.2 has loads more torque

i have a 1.2 k10 engine FOR SALE from the Super S
standard with a CAT it has 60BHP..
which if de-catted and a filter it could produce 65 ish:)
and is a direct fit.

How much u selling that engine for, i was going to eventually upgrade to a 1.4 escort engine in mine, wanting it to be my rally car but if that 1.2 will fit better, it will be allround cheaper on insurance etc.

i am from Bradford nr Leeds
the engine has done 90k

i'm selling it with starter/alternator/inlet manifold and carb
i want 120 for the above or could split
:)

where you from?

Im from the wirral near liverpool. I am hoping to find an engine with less on the clock than that tbh, but thanks very much for the offer:grinning:

while im here, would everyone recoment a 5 speed gear box as opposed to a 4 speed?:k10:

MA12 produces 60hp without cat, with cat it only produces 57hp but definately more torque than MA10

What are the things may get in the way and will need modification/change if i want to repalce MA10 with CG13?

the fact one is carbed engine the other is injectors is the big thing.
meaning ecu as to a non ecu engine. electronic fuel pumps.
driveshafts. all these need to be looked at.

All engine mounts would probably need modifying for the cg13 also. Probably more worth while if you can afford it putting the ga16 in instead, or just stick with the MA12 if you want a cheaper option. :)

if your gonna spend a lot of money dropping in a bigger engine then go for the 2.0 16v sr20 engine. it requires the same amount of work to drop in and i dare say is more than enough power.

there is loads of 2 litre novas so a 2 litre micra would fine.

simmo go for a 5speed box out of a ma10 powered car as it has the closer ratios. my opinion is its better than the long ratio - slim says otherwise but its down to personal choice

I fitted a 5 speed close-ratio box to my 1.0 K10, and although I was looking for a long-ratio one (for better fuel economy), the short ratio is still a much better box than my old 4 speed box.

James. :)

from the sites i have checked the bhp figure is 60bhp:)
Yes, that's the power figure for the non cat engines, but with little modification I think that 80bhp should be quite easy to achieve from MA12. With turbo - over 100hp maybe :)

I reckon 100BHP on a 1.2 would be achievable without a turbo fairly easy as long as you are prepared to go the custom route for most things. With a custom inlet/outlet manifold, decent carb, and everything well set up that could possibly see 100BHP.

By decent carb do you mean a completely different one or just a well set up original? Been thinking about this on and off but know next to nothing, is there a suitable replacement other than the weber?

*ahem* back on topic... The MA12 gave a new lease of life to my car, was so impressed at the extra torque! I've got the long ratio 4+E gearbox which IMO is the better one because I do lots of motorway miles so fuel economy is excellent (300miles to 22ish quid) but the first 4 gears are great for back lane playing too ;) Plus it's all a straight fit...

I've got a standard 1.2 k10 and i'm looking for more power on a tight budget. Can anyone suggest anything. I've heard about Sunny engine transplants, but probably to much work as i can only afford to have the car off the road for a couple of days max cuz of work. Thanks.
