Battery or starter?

Hi all. Just wanted to ask, when started first thing in the morning the starter motor sounds like it is struggling to turn the motor over, but it will start as normal the rest of the day? I have checked the battery first thing in the morning and it is showing 12volts. Anybody else had this before?

What voltage is it showing exactly? 12.57v to 12.66v is fully charged. On a 10 second load tester (to mimic starting) the battery should not go below 9 volts and should be able to deliver the rated cold crank amps on the label

To me it sounds like an issue with cold crank amps. A battery which doesn't have enough energy for a big current to start first thing in the morning but is fine once it gets going and the engine is warmed up with thinner fluids etc

Once a car gets running it doesn't take very much current at all to fire the spark plugs and power the accessories it's just that start up surge that the battery needs to be able to deliver
