Auto start up sequence.

Hello all.
I have brought the daughter a 1.2 auto (past test last week, first car etc)
Does anyone know the sequence to start the car.
We put the key in, turn it 2 clicks, dash lights up happily, foot on the brake, turn it to start and sometimes it starts no problem and sometimes it just does nothing. It can take 5 minutes of trying this and other sequences over and over to get it to start.
Any suggestions? We only have 1 key.

It should just start every time.
You'll need to start looking, ignition barrel switch or gearbox inhibiter would be my first guesses. (assuming you have no stupid aftermarket immobiliser)

Hi, thanks for the reply.
I'm pretty sure it's all standard original equipment.
Would a squirt of wd40 contact cleaner in the key hole help? Or is it a new barrel job?

I was be looking more at the switch contact on the back or the barrel
