Finished. Well, almost. Waiting for a USB lead to attach to the rear of the panel connector before I refit it all back in the car.

Had a bit of spare time so decided to make a little circuit to interface between the Megasquirt and the Bluetooth module. The Megasquirt can then talk to the Raspberry pi dash wirelessly .

Hey, just had a read through and can I just say, wow. Super clean and amazing work you are putting in. Only just recently got a micra as the Mrs is learning to drive but also wanted something I could learn on and well, as you have shown I have a LOT to learn! Look forward to seeing more updates from yourself regarding thie awesome little car!

OK, so I managed to finish off my prototype Megasquirt Bluetooth adaptor. Just need to test it now when I get chance.
I've already reprogrammed it with the correct communication settings and also a new password. Wouldn't want anyone else connecting to my ecu now would I. That would be a nightmare. Haha.

So MOT time again and after a quick check over the car, I've decided that it wouldn't pass with the front crossmember in its current condition.
Not wanting it to fail, I've decided to just replace the whole thing.

It doesn't look too bad from the front, but it's badly corroded round the back. The radiator is being held up by its own pipes.

This ones in behind that bumper bracket bracket are a bit of a pain to get to and are also 1 spot weld holding 3 layers of metal together if you haven't done it before

Cheers for the info. I'll most probably cut the old one away for ease as it's no good anyway.
Also I'll most likely bolt it back on if I can for ease of removal next time as the pattern parts aren't as thick material as oem ones.

If I was you I'd still remove all of the spot welds and take off the whole member in one go. Surely it needs to be welded on for test though doesn't it? As long as there is more than rivets like my car had

We don't weld anything on the aircraft I work on and they seem to be strong enough. And like I said, I'll see how it goes. I have all the welding equipment if I need to weld it up.

There was definitely movement in mine before I had it welded. What type of aircraft do you work on by the way?

I used to be plane mad that's why I asked. I'd say there'd be a fair bit of movement just bolted in, everywhere I've read it's been welded

So with the weather looking OK for most of the day I started to refit the crossmember.

I'd temp fitted it earlier in the week and predrilled all the holes for the mounting points. Then I coated it internally and externally with a corrosion salt spray protector. To top it off I painted it with Hammerite along with all the other pieces.

Drivers door had dropped considerably due to worn out hinges.
Picked up a set from a 5dr (not as heavy doors) to replace them.
Had to loosen the front wing to gain more access to the bolts.
I can't remove the wing as my side skirts cover the lower part.
I also can't remove the door as I ran wires through the pillar for the folding electric mirrors. Doh!

All fitted and back together.
Bit awkward lining the door up on your own, but ended up OK and it shuts properly now.

New tyres required. Cheaper to get them online from Germany and then pop round to the fitters to have them put on. How mad is that!

Hi, I'm just catching up...you mention putting corrosion salt spray protector on the crossmember. What's the brand name for that stuff? My '02 is having a sill welded as we speak, and I really need to do some rust slowing. The joys of living in a seaside town. Your car is looking fabulous, good on you.
 
Thought I'd mess around with my spare throttle body. It's the one I was using to test out my Megasquirt MS3X ecu.

So although I don't require a maf sensor. I forgot I used the temp sensor in it for air intake temp. Fortunately I've got a couple of GM air temp sensors, so I'll add one into the air box.
