A hundred million miles an hour of firefox

This isn't my work, got it off another forum, my firefox is mega quick now, do it!!!

Here's how to do it.

First of all ignore anything Microsoft say, they talk a load of bull

Download Firefox (a web browser far superior to Internet Explorer) link below

Firefox web browser | Faster, more secure, & customizable | Mozilla Europe

Once you've installed this and found it much quicker than IE you do the really clever part. As all these web browsers are set to work with dial up connections they don't work anywhere close to their capability so a few tweaks will increase the performance by about 10X

If you want to make firefox even faster do the following

Here’s something for broadband people that will really speed Firefox up:

1.Type “about:config” into the address bar and hit return. Scroll down and look for the following entries:

network.http.pipelining
network.http.proxy.pipelining
network.http.pipelining.maxrequests

Normally the browser will make one request to a web page at a time. When you enable pipelining it will make several at once, which really speeds up page loading.

To alter an entry right click and from the menu choose toggle

2. Alter the entries as follows:

Set “network.http.pipelining” to “true”

Set “network.http.proxy.pipelining” to “true”

Set “network.http.pipelining.maxrequests” to some number like 30. This means it will make 30 requests at once.

3. Lastly right-click anywhere and select New-> Integer. Name it “nglayout.initialpaint.delay” and set its value to “0?. This value is the amount of time the browser waits before it acts on information it receives.

I did this ages ago, works great! There's some other additional tweeks to FF you can do too :)

i did something to firefox that makes it flush the memory when you minimise it but it didn't work. my firefox seems to be using about 300mb of memory and keeps taking more.

Can't find the settings i used now, but type firefox tweaks into google and loads of pages come up about it.

However, just a warning with this - I upped the speed of Firefox using this method, but then found I couldn't access my online banking, so I had to change it all back again
Was good while it lasted though! :D

HSBC doesn't work in my firefox with the above tweeks for me! I have to use IE

You bunch of online bankers.... lol, I don't use any internet banking, I don't trust my internet connection enough

I didnt really notice much of a difference to be honest, felt like the page was loading all at once, not as it comes, thus making it take about a second longer to show anything.
