2004 Micra - steering occasionally very light

Hi.

Driving home from work the other day my steering suddenly went very light and I ended up massively oversteering onto the wrong side of the road while going round a corner. After recovering everything seemed fine - the road was quiet so I weaved back and forth a bit to see - so I assumed there was something slippery on the road and continued my journey. A little later it happened again.

Both times I was turning right: the first time was a gentle 90° at 50mph; the second time was a sharp 90° at 10mph.

I got my breakdown cover to take me to my local independent garage where they couldn't find any problems on a test drive, nothing in the ecu error codes and no noticeable mechanical issues.

I drove safely to work this morning - albeit slowly and carefully.

Has anyone got any ideas of anything I could suggest they investigate?

Thanks,

Gav

Diesel spill on the road the most likely suspect if the temperature wasn't sub-zero (then black ice possible)

That’s an interesting one. I can help you with a replacement but never heard that before.

Where are you located?

Jason.
