In a couple of months I will need some new tyres, i was thinking of going for 195/45/R14, I currently have 185/50/R14, can someone tell me if there will be diffrents in handling?? My mate said he put wider tyres on his wheels and it made the handling worse.. so Im a bit confused..

I dont believe 185/50/14 is a common size. Its usually 185/55/14 or the next one being 195/45/14 as you've listed

Wider tyres shouldnt make the handling worse at all, especially if the tyres are good. I used to have 165/65 Yokohama tyres and it slid everywhere, but changed to 185/55/14 Toyo's and the difference is incredible.

Its also possible your mate had summer tyres in the winter, werent balanced, inflated etc etc, could be a number of reasons

Going with a wider tyre CAN make the handling worse. If the sidewall is billowing out because the rim is not wide enough for the tread its kind of like driving on underinflated tyres.

However the tread width differences between the 185 and 195 will be ###### all - it'll be more dependant on the type of tyre you buy.

How wide are your rims?

Yes I noticed this haha!

I'm going to be getting some 195/50/14 Toyo T1-Rs from Ed soon, he can do pretty good prices on them and I miss the loveliness of T1-Rs! 195/50/14 is also an almost identical total size to my old 175/60/14s :)

or etyres.co.uk, how can i find out how wide my wheel is? thinking of CONTINENTAL - SPORT CONTACT (i got them at the moment, very good grip) or TOYO - PROXES T1-R

I can't fault T1-Rs, i have the 195/45/15 ones on my Micra and they're incredible! I'm getting some 195/50/14 ones soon for the Almera.

Plus Ed can beat pretty much any online price for Toyos! I'll point him to this thread :)

Well im still pretty much in trade so tyres or anything for that matter never cost a great deal. Ed chance of a quote for four 185/50/14 or 195/50/14, please.

TOYO T1-R - 195/45R14 77V = £44

TOYO CF-1 - 185/55R14 80H = £37 (I dont have 185/50/14 listed in my normal lists)
