    Regular oil changes made for no difference in mine. Changed oil/filter every 5000km with a top quality synthetic and still have the noise. Currently 156000 km and sounding like a chaff cutter at idle.

    Not really. Get yourself a programme and a cable and do your own diagnostics. Pretty cheap on ebay. A lot cheaper than throwing parts at it.

    To see if you have an intake leak, spray an ether based (aerostart etc) on the gasket areas of the intake manifold to see if this varies the idle( it should make the engine race)

    The timing chain tensioner operates on oil pressure and being at the top of the engine and on the end of the pressure circuit is the last item to be operated.
