    Worn ball joint

Change the whole control arm. You'll have the peace of mind of nice new rubber bushes and new ball joints. Not worth fannying around trying to change just one or the other!

Brake hoses, Discs n pads changing ... whats the cost ?

I'm no expert, but I reckon any respectable mechanic could do that lot in 2 hours, including a brake bleed. My local mobile mechanic charges £30 an hour, but you need to shop around for the best labour rates.

Coolant - your opinion on what to get and why

I used this stuff, as it's ok to use it with any other coolant that may still be in the system: Prestone Antifreeze coolant Ready to Use 4L red green blue mixes with all makes

    1.4 or 1.3 for <£200?

This is the current selection of K11 1.4 Micras on eBay at the moment: Nissan Micra K11 1.4 Most way above your price range I'm afraid. Am thinking of getting one myself in fact. Could do with a bit more poke. Some 1.3's here. A little nearer your budget, but not by much: Nissan Micra K11 1.3

    A slightly different heater problem

I suppose anything that passes high current, but acts as a resistor, will overheat and burn-out eventually. They should have located the resistor card inline with the cold air flow of the ventilation system.

    A slightly different heater problem

How weird, It's red on my laptop. Must be different colours in other browsers. Anyway, even if it is a copy, If it works that's all that counts :)

    2001 K11 1Ltr very slow pick up after de-accelleration?

As Frank says, the MAF can cause many problems, without actually throwing up a fault code. My Almera did this many years ago and had similar symptoms to yours. If disconnecting indicates a duff MAF, then it may just need cleaning, not replacing. Take a look here for more info: www.mafcleaning.co.uk

    A slightly different heater problem

Ha ha, do I detect a hint of sarcasm lol? I think £15.50 delivered is pretty good. Probably still pay a tenner at the scrappies for a 15 year old one

    A slightly different heater problem

More than likely one of the resistors on the card has blown. You can pick them up new cheap enough. Not worth going to scrappies as they'll be pretty old anyway. Link to vendor: NISSAN MICRA K11 1992-03 NEW FAN BLOWER MOTOR HEATER RESISTOR OE REF: 2715072B01

    Bad Alternator?

With the engine idling and nothing else turned on, try pressing the rear demist button. If the revs rise, then the ICV should be ok, if not, then suspect the ICV. I've got one of these permanently plugged into the dashboard DC socket: Dashboard Voltmeter 12v It's really useful for giving me...

    Noob with throttle body woes.

The MAF is easy enough to clean. Have a look at www.mafcleaning.co.uk for help.

    High fuel consumption

Owned two 1 litre K11's and they are not particularly ecomonical cars. The engine is very robust, but still technologically an old design. The missus runs a 2006 1 litre Toyota Aygo, and she achieves many more MPG's than me. I'm jealous :D

on start up fuel gauge dropping + battery light on + speedo not working

I bought one of these the other day, and I reckon it will be really useful for pre-empting future problems with the battery or alternator. 12V/24V LED Car Cigarette Socket Voltmeter Voltage Battery Tester Detector It only cost a few quid and fits neatly in the space where the DC socket is on...

    MOT Advisory

And while you're getting down and dirty with the wire brush, take a look at the rear sills (common MOT failure). Derust thoroughly and give them a coating of rust stuff too. The more time you spend on this area now, the less trouble you'll have later down the line.

    MOT Advisory

I'll be honest and reckon any rust prevention stuff will do. IIRC, the stuff I've got in the garage is called Loctite Rust Remedy. I believe it dries matt black, so shouldn't look too suspicious to the MOT examiner. The main thing is to remove as much of the existing rust as you can ;) Oh, and...

    MOT Advisory

Just thinking about the brake pipe thing, and maybe my idea of lightly coating in grease isn't such a good idea, as the MOT guy might mistake it for a leaking pipe. Rust prevention stuff it is then :)

    MOT Advisory

My 2002 K11 rear brake pipes need doing before the next MOT, and are probably the same as yours, just some surface rust. If they were bad, then they would have failed it. I plan to pop the wire brush attachment on the Dremel and take the rust off. Then I might just dip a rag in grease and give...
