K10 160mm performance clutch options in 2019... and strongest gearbox

Hi all,

I'm nearly ready to manual swap my figaro but I've heard that regular K10 clutches cant handle the massive (lol) torque of the MA10ET.

After reading lots of threads from years ago, I'm still not sure that I've found a good solution.
Is the 160mm Black Diamond Stage 3 paddle kit considered the best / only option for grunty MA engines?

I saw the Helix clutch mentioned a few times but this seems to be only in 180mm for the K11.

I can also only find a 180mm NISMO clutch.

... and while we're on it, which MA compatible gearbox is considered the strongest?

Any help would be super appreciated. Cheers!

The Black Diamond Stage 3 is 'Designed for use with highly modified engines (up to 40% above standard)'

MA10S
  • Maximum Power: 52 hp (39 kW; 53 PS) / 6000 rpm
  • Maximum Torque: 74.53 N⋅m (55 lb⋅ft) / 3600 rpm

MA10ET
  • Maximum power: 75 PS (55 kW; 74 bhp) at 6000 rpm
  • Maximum torque: 78 lb⋅ft (106 N⋅m) at 4400 rpm

Power increase = 44.2%
Torque increase = 42.2%

... should be ok... I think.

no the 160 flywheel, k10 is 5 stud and k11 6 stud
you may find that you have bluebird derived front hubs and oddball shafts ?

I'm now thinking K11 five speed box, K11 drive shafts, K11 hubs and your style of hybrid clutch... but what five stud flywheel could work?

yes i used k10 shafts on my preface 1.0 k11,s no probs, you need to check your hub splines tho, being auto they may be like the k10 st

I'd probably grab the K11 hubs to use with the K11 shafts.

I wonder if there is enough space for the five stud MA flywheel pattern to be machined in-between the six stud pattern on a CG flywheel.

the 1.3 f/w has a different dish tho matt, i would stick with the k10 f/w and hybrid plate, i never had any slip on my cg+t setups

Ah, I see, I must've misunderstood. I didn't realise that the friction surface of the K10 flywheel would be compatible with the 180mm clutch.

Makes things a lot easier if they can work together.

I just don't get how a 180mm clutch can provide more bite on a flywheel with a 160mm friction surface... unless the K10 friction surface was oversized from factory.

I guess I'll have to wait until I have all of the bits in front of me to understand it.

the friction plate has to be modded to sit under the 160 cover (down to 170mm on 1 side, plenty of pics on here somewhere) and the f/w face contacts the full 180mm, only the preface 1.0 box has the bellhousing depth and thrust dia to suit, and your torque figures dont add up btw ^
and "upto 40% extra" = BS usually

Ah, I'm with you. I'll have a dig around for more info.

Good spot, torque numbers fixed.

Thanks.

those look like generic pictures matt, you have to make sure the rivets are in the same place, i only did it with used plates

I've ruined my car ?

I've read up on your hybrid clutches in the past Frank, but to my knowledge aren't K10 and preface 1.0 K11 boxes the exact same, numbers and all? I'm hopefully doing the same MA10ET swap into my K10 and I was going to use your hybrid clutch as I thought it would fit inside the bell housing same as a K11. Is this not the case?

Sent from my LG K11+ (yes I did buy the phone specifically to have a K11 phone, I'm that sad)

yes those g/box,s are similar liam, slight difference in the gearchange rod and smaller bellhousing bolts
I've seen the gear selector is 90 degrees out compared to the K11, but a hybrid clutch will work exactly the same won't it?

That’s weird as this was the reply I had from them; they have never redrilled a cast fly wheel as they have not the same structual integrity as a steel one, what did you do ?

Hi there I’m after a flywheel for Micra K10 MA10, would you drill 5stud PCD in one of k11 solid flywheels?

Thanks Todd
