Lower front arms

Hi we have two K13 micra in the family one has done 70,000 miles and is on original front arms.
What is failing on your arms the ball joint or the bushes.
Replacement each year definitely not normal are you using OE quality parts.

Most parts have 12-24 month warranty so if they fail due to manufacturing defect they should be replaced free.
I worked at a Jeep / Chrysler dealer and the old PT Cruise would eat lower arm bushes. Cars would offer need new bushes every service but this was the exception. Most other cars ive come to no front arms last at least 50k.

Hope this helps.

Hi Steve.
Its the bushes and ball joint. I already have eibach springs on it but last set of arms I had lasted 7500 mile then had to change. I have since found out from nissan that I can change the bushes. I've managed to source some pillowjoint bushes from Japan. I hope these will stop my problem

My DIG-S does munch through suspension bushes, both ARB and lower arm, but not that quickly!

Mine is now on 57k, and if I recall had the ARB bushes 3 times and probably the same amount with the lower arm bushes (just had the lower arm done again last week). The K13 is known for its apatite for suspension bushes.

The ARB's were being done every 12-24 months, until one of my local Nissan garage identified a possible upgrade from another car. I didn't get the part number, but now on its 3rd year!

As soon as I bought mine I put two new front lower arms on, the bushes were only just beginning to crack. I ordered them from autodoc, they were less than half the price of genuine ones and come with a 2 year guarantee. As soon as they start cracking again, they are going back. This is a really common problem, I fitted hundreds whilst at nissan, rear wheel bearings, and clutches are common too. But a great car. I wont own anything I cant work on myself.

Its that time of year again where my DIG-S has chewed through another set of lower control arm bushes! Its something I have never attempted before (mostly CBA and concerned over stuck bolts!), however given my recent expenditure, I'm looking at saving a bit of money where I can.

How straight forward are these to do on the drive!? Are they similar to the K12 where its essentially 3 bolts and giving a few blows to release it from the ball joint? Thinking if I can DIY the first pair with a new set of control arms, I have more than halved my usual bill for this, then I can potentially have a go at replacing the failing bushes at leisure ready for the next swap, again further reducing the cost.

I did mine myself, its 3 bolts to remove however it takes quite some wrestling to get the new ones in the car. It helped that we have a car lift at home, and that I was doing the clutch at the same time, meant I didn't have to worry about the driveshafts popping out the gearbox.

If yours are being replaced roughly yearly you probably wont have the rust problems I was having with mine. I'd say it probably is doable but make sure you've got the car nice and stable, trying to get the bushes into the subframe takes quite a lot of work. And trying to get the new arm into the upright pinch bolt section takes work, I had to wedge a pry-bar into the upright and hammer the arm into place.

Hope this helps :)
