Difference between "red key" and "blue key" - is there any?

Hi all!

New member here, having recently been given a 2001 K11 Micra (51 plate) as an MOT Failure, and attempting to get it back on the road!

As far as I'm aware, the car is a very basic model (S) with no immobiliser, but the person who gave the car to me also gave me two keys - one with a red blob and one with a blue blob. They assured me there was some difference between the keys, but I can't seem to find any difference at all. They both seem to work everything.

What is the difference between the red and blue keys?

Thanks in advance!

From my experience and seeing what others have said in the past, the red key is a nats key and the blue isn't, however I've got a 2000 2ndFL with nats and I've got 2 blue keys....

Ah, right - that could be the case. I must admit, I didn't *think* the car had NATS, but it does have a red LED on the dashboard that flashes away when the ignition is switched off - does that mean it's got NATS?
Both keys can start the engine, but I don't know anything about the history of the car, so it's entirely possible it's been 'bodged' to no longer require the coded key!
In fact, looking more closely at the "red" key I suspect it may be a copy, as it does not have a Nissan logo embossed on it. The "blue" key looks like an official Nissan key.
