Clutch Gone!!

hi, last night my clutch went, ive taken it to a garage and been qouted £300 to get a new one fitted, ive looked on ebay and brand new clutches cost about £40 does 260 labour seem to much, how much have others paid to get new clutches?

I do all my clutch changes myself but £300 sounds about average to me, based on average labour rates. Bare in mind you will more than likely be paying more than £40 for the clutch through a garage, plus they will more than likely pull the driveshafts during the change, so they may also include gearbox oil in that quote too. I'd say 2hours labour, plus parts and VAT would be about right for a typical garage.

Best thing to do is ring around for a few quotes, including a Nissan dealership as reference. Also maybe worth seeing if anyone on the forum can help? Main thing is you're happy with your choice :)

Got a quote last week from Mr Clutch in Manchester of £150 for my 52 plate 1.0 ltr. Inc 12 mth guarantee. Seemed very reasonable to me :)

I wish my recent clutch change was £300, the Avensis cost me £800 to get it done. Massive thanks to Ed at Fusion for doing it as that price was a steal compared to the other quotes I had of £1300-2000.

I have just completed a clutch replacement on a 1.0L MIcra. It was really quite straight forward. We didn't have the benefit of a great many tools just a ratchet set and a few ring spanners and did the job on the drive with axle stands and a jack. Why don't you take the opportunity of doing it yourself? It is amazing how much one can learn from it. Failing that we had a quote for £160. It took us about two days to do but we worked very slowly and methodically and had to replace other parts on the way (see my very first and only other post). I saw that where we bought our replacement parts from showed the job time as 3.6 hours

I found the Mr clutch near me rather good. Took a polo there and was done quickly and they checked it 500 miles later to make sure all was well. Quoted me £220 for my mera but I'll be doing it myself. Providing you have the correct tools it's not too hard.

i can change a cg13 micra clutch and flywheel in under 3 hours, and the flywheel is about 45 mins of that, so to me 260 labour is expensive, but knowledge and experience is power, and power=money, so if you cant do it yourself then you need to pay, I think autodata gives 4-5 hours for the job, so 250 shared by 5 is £50 per hour which unfortunately is the going garage labour rate. a 'backstreet garage' may be cheaper tho

Just to add my bit...As I wrote earlier, I have just completed a clutch job on our K11. I took an LUK clutch off (definitely been on there from new) and put an LUK clutch kit back on (purchased from buypartsby). We had to replace one CV joint (f/o/s). The entire job cost £74 including the replacement CV joint....Go on do it yourself............There is plenty of advice out there I used the on below with the help of Babelfish translator

Good luck with it
