Car had its mot yesterday afternoon- no mention about the crossmember holes, so I think it can be safe to assume that this is defo not a fail area. Turns out it is just the outer sills between the B pillar and rear wheel arch that need welding. Time to sell the car soon then...!

I hope there is enough access for the spot welder- I've got a mig, but it hasn't seen use in years, so will no doubt be a pain to get running again. Thanks all

I took the starter off- the pinion end was black with soot-like dirt. I cleaned it off with petrol, then sprayed lots of wd40 whilst moving the pinion in and out with a screwdriver. Dried it off, put it back (my god, the left hand bolt is a sod to undo and do up again...). It works like normal...

So if the blower works on max, but not the lower settings, is this a rotary switch or motor/resistor problem- Haynes isn't clear on this?
