K11 1994 1.3 LX and E10 fuel - have i fallen in a rabbit hole?

Hi everyone, can i get some advice about what people are doing to avoid E10 damage in their K11s, please?

I purchased a 1994 1.3 LX petrol Micra and stupid myself I did not realise that the petrol I always use and the only one in my local supermarket forecourt is not compatible with the Micra.

Should I sell the car and let someone else with deeper pockets deal with it or is there any remedial action I can take about this.

Needless to say that I am completely gutted about this. I love the Micra and have invested lots of time and money getting hold of one with no corrosion and low mileage.

There's a thread here:

Where people have been reporting thier experiences running E10, I think most have been having no problems, perhaps describe what has been happening with your car so we can work out if it's related.

Nothing fuel related has happened to the Micra yet. I only wanted to know what has Micra owners been doing regarding preventative measures but after reading the conversations in the link you supplied, I think that I will have to carry on using E10.

Maybe add some ethanol neutralizing additive and refuel with E5 whenever I find a station that stocks it - haven't seen many...

Thanks for your reply and link!

Just out of curiosity. How long were and how many micras did you look at before you found yours and what was the cost? No easy feat i think during lockdown.

I looked for months for one with as little rust as possible and ended up with this one with some little issues but body wise is sound. I paid £1,475.

30,000 miles 1994 1.3l with immaculate interior and unmolested. Changed oil, oil filter fuel filter, spark plugs, changed the coolant and flushed radiator.

Is there anything else I should do to it?

Hi There , I use super unleaded but have now started to use e10 fuel additive done by Millers £10 from halfords or cheaper via ebay. If you've used e10 already and it's in the tank try putting 50ml to 100ml in to tank and this should help. Or try to fit a new rubber fuel pipe instead ! Yours Peter0003
