Keyless Go fault finding

Hi all -
I need to do some long-distance fault finding on my daughter's 2006 K12 as it (and the manual) are in another part of the country.

A few weeks ago the red immobiliser light occasionally remained on when she tried starting the car. She changed the fob battery which may / may not have made a difference (difficult to know as it was intermittent).
In recent days she says if has got worse and happens most times she tries to start, but if she gets out of the car and locks / unlocks it then tries again it always starts. Locking / unlocking from inside the car does not help though.

So...what is the immobilizer detecting in the key, is it passive or does the fob battery have to be working?
Any thoughts about what could be causing an intermittent problem?
There is only 1 key btw so cant just try another.

I have asked her to try the key in ignition next time. Will the immobiliser still look for the fob though?

HI, wish I could help you but I'm at the stage where I have Changed the bcm under the headlight twice now due to no cranking of the engine and no fuelling (diesel 1.5 dci 2005 with active keys). Keys are recognised and immobiliser light goes off. I can crank the engine with a wire from the battery but still no fuelling with ignition on. Last week I sent the ecu to bba for testing but turns out that it's one of the few they can't work with. I don't appear to have the dreaded steering column fault, have no significant fault codes. I use a launch for programming etc but no good. I have ripped out the dash and see a small black module up above the accelerator pedal area (not the body comfort controller) If anyone on here can identify what that is, maybe /hopefully a separate immobiliser module it could help us both. If I identify it in the meantime I will post here.

That seems painful. Sorry I can't help.
My long distance fault finding involved changing the battery and finally a new case (old one was cracked). For whatever reason apparently one of these has fixed it. For now.

Put the "actual" key in the passenger side of the door...... that will unlock NATS and get you up and running again. The keyless fob has a key inside it..... can only be used on the passenger side of the door........ use that as a means of entry and your car will realise you're not a thief and will actually start!

Using your key on that side of the door will let your car go out of theft mode...... trust me, been there and done it

On my Micra left door is drivers side!

Check if the boot light bulb is working when boot open and when boot is closed the light is off. I had a locking / immobilizer issue and found it to be the boot light bulb fused. I believe it's part of the circuit for keyless entry system. Worth a check. Good luck.
