05 Nissan Micra Immobiliser fault.

Hello, I have no idea about almost anything when it comes to cars so any help would be appreciated! My 05 Nissan Micra suddenly cut out on me yesterday about 10 seconds into my journey. It doesn’t even attempt to turn on - the only light flashing on the dash is the immobiliser. I have tried to jump start it, changed the battery, changed the battery on the key fob and checked the fuses. I had a mechanic out who suspects that it is immobilised (guessing the key ran out of battery - as I had never changed the battery - mid drive) as the lights will come on and the diagnostic showed nothing wrong but it won’t lock/unlock, turn on etc. Does anyone have any idea how to bypass the immobiliser? I have tried the method of turning the key to the on/off 6 times and then holding the lock button down etc but no luck!
Any suggestions will be greatly appreciated! Many thanks

If the eps was changed not correctly and you suffered a flat battery or a battery disconnect then yes. This will show a key turn with nothing happening and a NATs light. But I’m sure there could be other root causes, this is the one I know and fixed many times for people on here.

I had this happen recently after changing the battery and it had trouble starting (eps was replaced last year). Also about 5 min into my drive the red car symbol illuminates and stays on for the duration of my journey. How do I solve this?

This is due to the security on the EPS. when they changed the eps they never remove the battery which will result in this failure mode. If you get a flat battery or remove it, you can will not start! Please be careful, I’ve seen this many times.

Unfortunately I am in N. Ireland. Is there anything I can do to rectify this, don't wanna get caught out again when battery dies. Last time I locked and unlocked the doors using the fob, then entered using the key itself, turned the ignition to the on position for 5 mins, back to off then it started. Don't want to risk it again.

Dongle is a software security, so the eps pairs with the car and then records the ‘dongle’ in NVM. The dongle is a code that pairs both sides, eps to BCM this cannot be cleared or changed by a third party.
On ignition on the BCM checks the dongle in the ECUs and ensures it matches. If it does not match you get a NATs issue.
I know people mess around with the NVM but I would not recommend as this will cause possible issues with other variables in the NVM, like tune data (see my other post on this)

Jason

hope this helps.

Huttojb can you help please my daughters car is stranded in an under ground car park it’s 1.2 2006 k12 micra. The battery has died due to cold weather we’ve tried to jump start it and no luck so changed it with new battery but still no luck I’ve read from the post the eps might be the cause. Is there anyway to override it
Please

Hey Dave. What’s up. I’d the car drivable or is it a none starter?
thanks for the reply Huttojb.

The car is a non starter unfortunately, we have just fitted a electric steering motor from Drivetec and now have the dreaded red immobiliser light permanently on, we have full ignition lights but no turning of engine, its a 2004 model, automatic with smart key. thanks for your time, Dave

Oh no… not good. Reman/aftermarket business bites again. I’m possible could help but do not travel as it takes too much time away from me. What’s your post code, if it’s somewhere I pass , I might be able to help. I have no idea why people buy reman units! You’re basically buying a failed unit from someone who has no idea how to repair!

Hi everyone,

I've got 2005 Micra (a shadow of my old k11) with the usual power steering fault, I've been driving it like this for last 9 months, its only a little car, but now my MOT is fast approaching so it needs sorting.

I've read everything I can find on this site and others and am at an utter loss what to do, new parts don't exist, used parts stop the immobiliser and the few rebuilt units look sketchy.

If anyone has any advice on what I should do I'd be really grateful as I cant afford a new car at the moment, I'm based in Bristol

In the end I came across Nissan Data Scan 3, its a simple program that offers full dealer level diagnosis and code reading but only costs £30 and uses a £17 VAG K+CAN cable. The support for the k12 on the website is almost non existence but I can confirm that it does work with mine. I didn't have an immobiliser fault (sorry, posted in the wrong place) but the software also allows you to read the codes in the immobiliser and even code new keys.

With the software I read and cleared the codes and the power steering is now working fine. Obviously this wont resolve every problem and mine might go again, the relays are noisy, but I can easily clear the codes again myself.

Hi Will,
I'm happy to hear you got your car fixed, at least for now :) I'm planning to do the same to get through my mot in 2 weeks. Just wondering though, wouldn't Nissan Data Scan 2 be the appropriate software for a K12?

The k12 uses both nds2 and nds3 because its based on individual ecu's and communication protocols not the overall car, nds2 is needed for the sir bad and engine ecu and nds3 for all the others including power steering. The software is free to download and try so you can try connecting to ecu before buying an activation so your sure itll work. Also buy a k +can cable as this will work with all the ecu's on the car.

If you download the software and read thr guides it'll make a lot more sense, e.g nds2 doesn't list eps as an option.

Thanks Will! I just cleared my fault codes using NDS3 and the K+CAN cable you mentioned and my power steering is back :) I'm happy to have a temporary fix that will hopefully get me through my MOT this week

Hi huttojb stumbled upon this site and thought you’d might be able to give me some advice. I have a Nissan Micra se 54 plate I apologise in advance as I know nothing about cars! My car won’t start it’s at a garage and the mechanic is saying it’s the immobiliser and he can’t override the error code? Does this mean my cars done for? It cut out the other week so I towed it to Halfords because I thought it was the battery had a new battery fitted but still wouldn’t start. The red car light with key inside is lit up on dashboard. Had RAC come out then managed to get the engine to turn over from under the car but couldn’t start it the normal way with the key! Towed to garage it’s in now been there for over a week and mechanic has said he’s tried all different things but still can’t get it to start. And advice would be really appreciated. Thank you
