1999 Micra Profile

So back in January this year I was getting bored of driving a 2004 Toyota Yaris 1.3

Purchased to replace my 2002 Nissan Micra 2002 1.0 Cadbury Blue Tempest Below (Candy) worst thing I ever did as car above cost me over £1000 to keep on the road. Biggest mistake of my life.

So searched around for a Nissan Micra k11 and on 1st January 2020 I was messaged on Facebook about a 1999 Nissan Micra 1.0 Profile in Caldicot that was for sale with only 24,966 miles on the clock and had been off the road for the last 4 years

On 4th January 2020 I went down to Coldicot to see the car and thoroughly checked the car over as didn't know what to expect being that car had been off the road for 4 years and had no mot.

I checked all the usual corrosion spots that micras have like the corner by the vents etc all seemed to be solid just a few bits of surface rust nothing serious.

On 7th January 2020 Red Rose passed mot with only a few advisories and on 11th January I collected the car from Caldicot.

Not long after bringing the car back I removed the scuttle panel to check for corrosion and clean years of debris.

Gave Red Rose a much needed service on 21st February at 25,125 miles the original spark plugs didn't look to bad but the air filter had definitely seen better days so had the oil also fitted a New Yuasa 3000 Battery.

In March I upgraded the stereo from tape deck stereo to the modern equivalent a JVC CD,Bluetooth,Hands-free,Dab stereo.

Back in April work included sanding,repainting and refitting battery mount & horn also fitting headlight protectors and cleaning the engine bay.
Decided To replace the old Aerial as it had perished.
Fitting the new Dab aerial was a nightmare as I had to remove the grab handle door rubbers,seat belts b pillar covers C pillar covers A pillar cover,interior light. I undid every thing got my hand in the b pillar and pull the headliner down quite hard to get it out from the window rubber. The other side just fell down.
Once I had done that I unscrewed Sun visors and removed the plastic clip in the center of the front headliner. And slide the whole headliner forward.
Then Undid the gold bolt on Aerial and it came off in one piece.
Then fitted the new universal Dab radio aerial that I purchased from eBay then wired it all in and made sure all wiring was hidden and put everything back together.

In May the local garage in west Wales removed headlamps,bumper,radiator & trims, drilled out spot welds holding cross member which was badly corroded behind radiator fitted & welded new cross member prepared for paint sprayed it with primer and topcoat. Sprayed inside cross member with clear waxoyl fitted rear mudflaps, lubricated gear linkages checked and adjusted front wheel tracking (was toeing out).
advice from the garage was that to sort problem that was occurring with problem going into gear was that either gearbox needs taking out to sort the problem ie lubricate clutch fork or change the clutch.

I opted for the clutch to be replaced so the front wheels were removed to take drive shafts out of the gearbox heat was applied to ball joint nuts gearbox was removed from ''Red Rose'' to fit the new clutch kit assembly fork was lubricated everything was refitted and was filled with gear oil and road tested.

Was starting to get dark couldn't resist a full light test my mate sorted the fog light switch and fog light wiring loom out for me as when 1st bought the fog lights the switch didn't work a very good friend of mine rebuilt the fog light stalk and made the original look new and better than original. Also fitted some Sr Alloys purchased locally in June.

Local garage in West Wales cut out corrosion from N/S door ,plate weld,apply filler,primer & paint. Removed rear bumper,cut out corrosion from O/S rear panel. Plate weld, apply filler primer & paint. cleaned corrosion from around rear panel treated,primed & painted. Removed front under wing splash guards,cleaned Waxoyl and refit. Waxoyl inside doors,rear inner wings,under body,under wings,inside chassis,sills,etc.​

previous owner of the Yaris sold me a bad car it had to have new brakes front & back new suspension all round track rods wheel bearings etc.
 
The Good, the Bad & the Ugly of Car Buying!

I have always bought every car privately, as it stands with all its faults, for cash for the last 46 years.

My first car, a 6 year old Mk2 Cortina for cash & I learnt to drive & passed my test first time as a 17 year old.

The bad was a noisy gearbox & I decided to sell the car on for a profit within two months of my initial purchase.

The ugly was when the bailiffs later came calling to repossess it as twice as much as I payed for it was owed on hire purchase by the previous owner that I bought it from in good faith. Ouch.

That was my rude awakening as a 17 year old to the big boys World of dog eat dog of car buying & owning.

I walked away Scot free as I had already sold it on with my profit in the bag & a valuable lifelong motoring experience lesson learned that has served me well to this day.

That is double check verify the evidence paper trail plus every practical detail & to ignore the sellers BS anecdotes.

Leave nothing to chance & we won’t get caught buying a pup again. :cool:

Great looking clean K11, they're hard to find like that (especially in the best colour that K11s came in, not biased....). You're looking after it well, keep it up

After the car running a bit rough yesterday I decided to pull the distributor apart and clean the contacts and clean and check all 4 spark plugs also the oil breather filter and air box while I was at it seems to be running good now.

My rear electrics wasn't working on my boot so removed the boot hinge rubber and some of the wires had snapped so rejoined and now all electrics on boot lid now work.​
