Yeah I think there is a bit of an issue in the UK, in that lots of people just get financed BMW's/Audis etc and then put a performance air filter and then think they are knowledgeable car enthusiasts!

Nothing wrong with a financed car or a performance air filter at all, but it doesn't make you a knowledgeable car enthusiast!

Yeah see that alot, not hating but some of them claim to be what they aren't. Not that I am, I have so much to learn on this micra ?
 
Got my new water bottle installed, chuffed, got one of 4 new caliper sliders installed, the seized one☺ well chuffed and the new fuel filler pipe in all under what storm dennis could through at me☺ went down to our kids 30 miles away to bleed his warrior brakes for mot in the morning and the chuffing sun came out!
 
I colour coded my front bumper where it was originally that faded out grey, will post pics tomorrow of the final result! :D

NEW VIDEO OUT!

In this special instalment of Rauf Cars, I share with you some background history of my sleeper Micra project car - from back in 2006 all the way to the current times in 2020 - its had a different past to most cars including the fact it was bought for £80 and written off three times! (NOT MY FAULT!!)

 
Had an absolutely awesome day rallying the 1.0 k11 through a friend's Olive groves. A few of us went over and had about 40 acres to ourselves, so we made the most as it would've been rude not to! Set out a great circuit and did masses of timed laps, drag starts with handbrake turns, donuts, fastest reversing, best entry (through the sunroof, backwards, across the bonnet). You name it we did it. The old girl stood up to serious abuse of the engine, brakes, clutch, suspension, everything, including the bodywork when one of the guys stoved it into a tree (ambition outweighed his talent) destroying the front wing, bumper, headlight and front wheel, fortunately I brought spares) We carried on until the sun went down then I limped her the 10 kilometres to the breakers, handed over the docs and keys with more than a bit of sadness in my heart if I'm honest. We'd done loads together; marshall car at an airfield trackday, numerous motorway trips from Oxfordshire to the Northwest where she more than held her own, drag starts from the booths on the m6 toll, stuck to the rear end of much more capable cars through some seriously twisty country lanes, drove from Oxfordshire to Southern Spain via eurotunnel (the looks of amazement I got from drivers of new saloon cars after they asked where I was going to in such a small car were priceless, and we proved the 'you won't do that in that' naysayers wrong) along every b-road in a totally rain deluged France I could find, across the top of the Pyrenees whilst loaded up to the gunnels with kit, then across virtually the whole of Spain in 40 degree heat, where she held steadfastly, performing every task that was asked of her, over hilly terrain and along autoroutes. Never once did she miss a beat, stutter, hesitate or let me down, and I never once thought she would. After almost 100,000 miles (over 25k of those in my hands) it only seemed fair to give her a raucous sendoff. But she will live on, not only in spirit, for she has donated many parts to 1.4. I would ask, if I may, if you gents and ladies would join me in mourning the passing of one of the much loved, and much underrated, great cars of our time. Thank you.

That's awesome man, what a journey that must have been. I'm planning to take my k11 to the nurburgring one day and come back home to the UK with it (planning to do this next year). I'll first have to get the car ready though (better suspension, stripped out, gripper tyres, etc) ?
 
Now those look ace! Do they require any spacers or bolt straight on?

Straight bolt on, they are only 5.5j but it required to get the centre bored out a little as honda wheels have a centre bore of 56.1mm whereas the micra's hub is 59.1mm. So I got it centre bored out from a engineering place. Only cost £50 for 4 wheels so ain't too bad ?

Originally I had intentions of overhauling this 1.4 and dropping it into my 1.0 but I'm not really around enough to make much headway on that so for now its just stripping it apart to see how it compares to the slow speed diesels we have on ship.

Surprisingly similar considering that this one is the size of my toolbox and the slow speed is bigger than my house...

It would need considerably more power to get into the 13s.

Without timing gear the 0-60 should be taken with a pinch of salt. I'd put it comfortably in the 15s at POD assuming there's little to no headwind on the day.

Yeah I would actually go with 15's although small, light cars always feel quicker!

The weight is what will be in your favour, some websites that let you estimate quarter mile from 0-60 time won't even let you put in a car under 900kg, the weight-reduced kerb weight of a lotus elise basically. A micra with a little weight reduction (seats out) is 700-750kg and 70% of that is over the front wheels. Small wheels fat tyres

The cars on that list are powerful big blocks but they're heavy, a porsche boxster wouldn't stand a chance
