Help with Ogura TX07 supercharger

Hi All,

I have a Nissan Cube Impul Supercharged Japanese 2004 import. When I purchased it I was told that the supercharger which is an Ogura TX07 needs new bearings. I noticed that Pollyp installed the same supercharger a few years ago hence why I've joined the group. The issue which I have is when you turn on the supercharger switch it makes a loud clanging sound like there is a metal object stuck inside, the sound is coming from the left hand side of the engine.

I would really appreciate if anyone could direct me to a specialist or could repair it. I live in Bradford, West Yorkshire and I'm really struggling to find anyone who can repair it.

Kind regards,

Well I've found a rebuild kit HERE...I assume that you will need it when you find someone in the UK to rebuild it (perhaps a commission for Paul?).........

Hi John, many thanks for your reply. I contacted the ebay seller several months ago about it and he doesnt have the whole kit for the supercharger he only has the front 2 bearings. Please dont quote me on this but someone told me that if I opened the supercharger (which I'm not going to do) and took out the damaged bearings i could then go to fabricaters and have an exact copy made? Anyone know of this?

there will be a number stamped on the bearings, and most of the bearings that around that size i buy on ebay are a couple of pounds each,
you need to check the rotors for damage first tho

Hi Frank, thanks for your reply. That's the thing I havent checked the supercharger, but a mechanic said it's the bearings. Also I had the car serviced (full service with spark plugs) by the main nissan dealer and when I drove the car and put my foot down it was like in a limp mode than after about 20 to 30 seconds it picked up speed. So I really dont know if that is something else. King regards

Just to add, does anyone know whether it's best to get it repaired, buy a second hand one or replace the supercharger with a different roots charger?

A good option would be to fit an Eaton M45 supercharger as fitted to the early BMW Cooper S. There are quite a lot on ebay at less than £200 and spares are readily available. A few years ago I helped a mate fit one on his MGB...

Hi John, thanks for your reply. Would the Eaton fit where my old supercharger is placed? and would it be a matter of installing it and I'm good to go?

Well this drawing shows the overall sizes and port details.
Eaton M45.jpg

Check if it will fit in the space the original one currently occupies (and that the pulleys can be lined up). Obviously you will need to fabricate suitable mounting brackets and modify the inlet and outlet connections from the original set up to connect to the Eaton ports......

Much appreciated for that John. I have the dimensions for my Ogura supercharger and will see what the difference is. Do you know what the extra bhp will be as I know my Ogura doesnt really give out much. Dont quote me but have read on forums about an extra 20 to 30 bhp

Output will depend on the level of boost pressure, which on a supercharger is governed by the RPM, which in turn can be adjusted by changing drive pulley sizes........ THIS company seem to specialise in the M45 so contacting them and asking their opinion might be a good idea......

If I buy a second hand Eaton it would need to have a new supercharger kit. The cost will soon add up but would need someone to remove my Ogura supercharger and replace it with an Eaton

Just a thought, Micra 160 SR with charger. Is it doable with reasonable cost...?
Possibly Mika, but not sure of the application with fuel injection, whether the inlet side would take the boost and the need to re-map the ECU........Was easy on the MGB that I worked on, single big SU carb that was sucked through, just had to get the correct jet and needle to get the fuel air ratio something like right....no electronics to play with. On the Impul, as it is already supercharged, it would probably only be necessary, if it can be physically fitted, to 'play with' pulley sizes to get a similar output to the original (FUBARed) unit.........

I have a switch to turn the supercharger off or on. So would that be possible with an Eaton?
That rather suggests an electrical controlled clutch. If it is on the crank drive pulley, then yes I see no reason while that would change. If on the supercharger drive pulley then perhaps that could be modified to fit the Eaton supercharger? You need to talk to a supercharger specialist (like the one I linked in an earlier post) and discuss the possible conversion to an M45....

Well we are back with talking to a supercharger specialist about the possible conversion......

Cheers John, just spoke to the supercharger specialists from Dorset and said it wouldn't be possible to attach the electric on/off switch to the Eaton. I just need an expert now who can remove my supercharger and get it repaired. This seems like an impossible task at the moment as I've spoken to the majority of supercharger specialists in the UK and America and they cant help me.....

Have you actually determined where the disengagement clutch is located in the system? If I was just asked if the Eaton could have an on/off switch attached, them my immediate answer would have been no as well.......

Sorry John im not technical enough to know where that is. I havent even seen my supercharger. I'm really sorry as I'm not technically minded on these things. You dont live near Yorkshire by any chance lol

The electromagnetic clutch of the Tx07 is part of the pulley. Heres a close look of the kit I installed on a K12

Like I mentioned I'm not mechanically minded but I have learnt quite a bit about superchargers. The one thing I have learnt is its near impossible to get my Ogura TX07 repaired or even finding the same supercharger. I want to keep my car as original as possible and don't want to fit an Eaton in my car, due to it not being fitted by Impul.

As I have exhausted my search for a secondhand Ogura TX07 or getting mine repaired; and would like to know your opinion on the matter. I haven't a specialist who I can go to or trust; as most of the so called experts in my area that I have spoken to and looked at my car really don't know what their are talking about. I dont have the knowledge or tools to take the supercharger off and wouldn't even know where it is.

So i'm back to square one and dont know who to contact for help in repairing my supercharger? The last thing I want to do is let it rot, then again I wonder if Car SOS might be interested in helping me......lol

Try some machine shops. They might be able to replace the bearings. I would advise in just pulling off the super charger and visit some shops. Or even take it apart to see what bearings are in it. Most garages won’t work with it because it’s aftermarket

Thanks for your reply Maarten, I've spoken to many local garages and they wont even remove my supercharger as they dont know nothing about superchargers. If it was a turbo than that would be different as you can easily get a turbo repaired. Even the main Nissan dealership which I got it serviced would not even touch it or repair it. Also if a mechanic removed the supercharger can I still drive my car? Also when i drive my car it goes into a limp mode and takes about 10-20 seconds to pick up. Even though I had it serviced at the main dealers with new spark plugs fitted

if the car is your daily, then you may be best to get a stock manifold etc fitted, and then get the s/c checked for rotor damage, then decide from there

Its easy to remove. But you need a stock manifold fitted like frank said.

I found this picture:

As you can see its a whole unit that needs to be removed. And there are some longer belts. So you need a stock manifold and new belts. If its a daily its quite a hastle. If you could just park it in a garage for a few weeks it would be alot easier. Then you can just remove the supercharger itself and get it checked out. There are alot of companies that can check them out if you bring them the supercharger itself. (MOst dont have a big garage to store a car for a while)

Many thanks for replies, I have only driven the car 3 times and those were when I drove it to the garage. It's been parked up since I got it in summer, and is just kept in the drive. I need it to be repaired by a mechanic who knows what there doing. Having spent every day speaking and trying to do my own research on the supercharger; you guys on this forum all know your stuff and have provided me with a greater understanding of how my supercharger works.

Can anyone recommend a mechanic/hobbyist who can remove my supercharger, repair it and then fit it back into my car. If unable to repair it just remove it and I will get it repaired, but would then need replacing back into my car. I live in Bradford, West Yorkshire and really really struggling to find anyone who can get this sorted.

Hi Guys, just to let you know I finally got an experienced mechanic to take out my supercharger. The problem being that the damage is from the rotors and not the bearings. I just want to know whether rotors on a supercharger can be repaired?

Again many thanks for your replies Frank & Maarten. I want to know if there is anywhere in the UK that can repair my rotors as my bearings are fine.

I don’t know any company in the uk but I’d still replace the bearings just to be sure.

Most likely any company that can rebuild a eaton supercharger can also rebuild these

Hello!
I have occasionally found your topic while googling some information about Ogura blowers.
I have supercharged toyota and faced troubles too. Nobody in my country could fix it and I spent 15 month to solve the problem.

Did you found solution?
I see the photos and I think your charger is not rapairable, but maybe I can help you.

Hi, thank you for responding to my post. I purchased one from a member on this forum and he saved my life. I owe everything to Chris and my mechanic who installed the Ogura supercharger in my Impul.
I did manage to keep my old supercharger, which I think is beyond repair but then again pretty much anything can be repaired.
If you need any help or advice please let me know.
Kind regards

I have read my post again and now I realize It is not clear, that after 15 months my car is finally repaired.
Unfortunately my TX15 is much expensive and hard to find even in Japan, so the story was much longer... Used TX07 and TX12 are available in Russia and can be bought.
Wish your new blower run well with no problem!

I would strongly advise you to make sure you service your supercharger before you install it in your car. As it is recommended to have it serviced which would involve topping up with oil so that the parts dont get damaged. I think the manual says every 20,000km. They do last a long time as long as they are looked after properly.

Hi, I have occasionally found this topic and Ogura supercharger is not popular, can you please direct me where can buy the TX12 supercharger? This is what I am having at the moment and would like to buy a spare one before it's dead.

Hi,

I did see 2 for sale on ebay (Ogura TX12 & Ogura TX15) at the beginning of last and were around £800 to £1200. There really hard to come by unless someone is breaking a car.
The only thing I would say to you is service your supercharger every 10,000 miles as this will prolong the life of your supercharger and gives you time to source one as well.

I hope that helps

TX12 is used for following charger kits:
Blitz for Altezza SXE10
Toms for GT86
Blitz for Toyota Hiace (now available new from Blitz)
Blitz for Toyota Land Cruiser Prado (now available new from Blitz)

Unfortunately, I can't find any used TX12 in Russia now, but recently they were on sale 1-2 times every year. Price for full Altezza kit is between 500 and 1100 USD. Good news - one is available in Tokyo https://page.auctions.yahoo.co.jp/jp/auction/n468785938

Wow thats really good news and cheap at the price plus its the full kit. I dont know about you but after shipping costs from Japan to Russia the cost of shipping it might be more than the supercharger itself

Almost every person in Eastern Russia uses JDM spare parts, so the shipping channels are designed to be rather cheap, about 10 USD per 1kg to Vladivostok by sea container. And Air Mail / EMS is expensive, of course.
