Confused by newer K12 Models

My trusty old 2003 K12.. "Mighty Microbe" is dying. He's been a superb family friend, but alas, clutch issues, exhaust issues, and high mileage... and a slew of other non-vital faults are making it untenable to keep any longer :( Quite sad. He's been great.

So... Basically, I don't like the K13, and can't afford the new one, so I'm after a 2010 K12C. The Nissan model line-up confuses the hell out of me though. I can't find a website that breaks it all down for me either. I realise that the "Visia" is the base model, as it looks like a pre facelift interior in a facelift body, so that's out. I like the look of the N-TEC interior, but as for the rest... What is the highest model? Acentia+? That seems to be, but surely the N-Tec is higher spec isn't it? Acentia+ seems to have climate control, but doesn't have the sat-nav.

Can you still update the sat nav?

Things I absolutely require:

Fuel computer - Despite Mighty Microbe being a Micra E it had a fuel computer fitted before I got my hands on it, and I can't live without that.

Air Con: After this summer.... I need this... plus for winter misty windows.

Electric mirrors: It's a pain having to do this manually every time my wife has been driving it.

Does anyone have a break down of models and trim/equipment levels?

Thanks

This March 2010 K12 range sales brochure is currently on sale on eBay for a fiver, see HERE

....it would almost certainly answer all of your questions

I was hoping that I'd not have to spend money to have a question answered :)
As this forum's knowledge base is very strong on the K11 models and quite light on the K12 and later models, obtaining the relevant Nissan brochure for the year you specifically want information about is probably your best bet. At a fiver that particular brochure looks to be good value for money and no I have no connection at all with the seller...........

I had a really good website for this but I can't find it now, I will edit this post when I find it

edit: nope it's gone from my favourites list, shame that. I think your best bet is probably buying the thing, all I can find when I google search this is sales and dealer websites

Thanks for trying.

I've pretty much decided that my next Micra is going to be a N-Tec any way. Kind of hard to argue with sat nav, cruise control, bluetooth and USB inputs for the head unit etc. as well as the same trip/fuel computer features as the others. I think the Acenta+ had the climate control and heated seats (or maybe that was the earlier "luxury +), but climate control is not all that, and heated seats only really make sense with leather. I never got my head around what the "Tekna" has, but sod it.. N-Tec it is. I like the styling too.

Just trying to find one that's not a boring colour now.... What IS it with car colours these days? They're all White, black, silver or grey!! Hardly any red ones at all. I really don't like "café Latte"... let's be honest.. it's beige! Bring back the 70s!... thats what I say. Cars came in colours in the 70s :)

Agree with you on the colour

, England is grey enough without the cars being various shades of grey too

That colour they used on volvos was nice, the blue one they had on that estate car. I forget the name

Have you tried the BMW game? It breaks up long motorway journeys :) Basically, whenever you see an Audi, BMW or Mercedes, note it's colour. Count the ones that are not black, white, silver or grey. It's a good game.

Almost as good as "spot the green car".

Green is a dying colour it would seem.

"That colour they used on volvos was nice "

You mean that bright, solid blue that Polestar always chose for their special editions? This one?

Bring back the 70's indeed! Back in the day (was that really 40 years ago??!!) I had a 'GT green Fiat Strada the same as this:-

In this case 'GT' didn't stand for 'Grand Turissimo' but 'Goose Turd' ;)

And despite all that it still doesn't comply with the London ULEZ requirements! (which rather strangely my 2005 1.2 petrol version does) Currently if you stray into the London Congestion Zone area (which the ULEZ shares) at any time, and after October 2021, when the ULEZ is expanded to the area within the North and South Circular Roads, you will be liable to a £12 a day charge! The world is going mad

What's the point of having a flippin dpf on it then, agreed the world is going bonkers.

Well i don't travel much to London and when i do have to it will be the train. No hassle of driving through the super duper congested roads and paying an arm and a leg for parking.

I would just move at that point, they won't be happy until we're all riding bicycles

They'll still keep their private jets and helicopters though of course, 5 airports in London they don't need to travel like the peasantry

Thanks for that Immy! I've definitely decided on the N-Tec. I asked a question in another thread re: USB, but I'll ask again here. Can you use a USB stick? I looked at one today (didn't buy it.... too many other problems) but it wouldn't recognise the USB stick. Can yours? I suppose it would have to be FAT32 formatted... but mine was. Maybe it just didn't like my pen drive... coudl you do me a massive favour and check? That may be a game changer for me, as the thought of GBs of music on a little pen drive was VERY appealing. The Micra N-Tec only has one USB socket, correct? I know on the Qashqai N-Tec it has two, and a USB stick will only work on the one inside the armrest, NOT the one on the dash. I never checked as by that time, I realised teh car was a shed (They even left the masking tap on after a cheap respray). I'm tempted to name and shame the dealer.

I also asked about Bluetooth, but you've answered it above... that it is indeed hands free phone operation and not just Bluetooth connectivity for storage etc.

I'm struggling to find a nice red one though!!

Watch out for rust under the offside headlight and clutch issues... k12s of the 08 onward seemed to suffer a lot

Both really, friction disc doesn’t put up with abuse of any sort and the bearings wear out and squeal after a few years of being fitted in some cases. I have quite a few k12s on the books and all of the petrol models suffer with high biting points noisy bearings and one day they just start slipping or the bearing goes bang. I wouldn’t be able to say if it’s user error or not but the new micras are not known for clutch reliability and heard many go after just 20 or 30k from bearing failure.

Some models have recalls out on the clutch release so be sure to check

I didn't have to format my usb stick for music playback.

Bluetooth is indeed for hands free calls, you can also play music from your phone via Bluetooth!

Yes there is only one usb port and one aux port.

I have had zero issues with the clutch / gearbox however i service my car myself. I have changed the gearbox oil, the old oil had a golden color to it whilst the new one was very clean in comparison. I don't abuse it as i am planning on keeping it for the foreseeable future.

I have not checked for rust under the headlights. I will do this over the next bank holiday towards the end of August.

If you do get a diesel then remember there is no chain it's a belt and should be changed ever 60/70k or 4/5 years whichever comes first.

Thanks for getting back to me. It will be a petrol, not diesel.. I think.. not bought it yet :)

Good to know that it can use a USB stick. The one I saw yesterday either had an issue, or my USB stick is to blame.

Can I ask how many miles yours has done? If yours is high mileage and there are no issues, then that kind of puts my mind at rest a little. I have to say though, I've had no clutch issues with my current Micra (although it's getting worn now after nearly 100K), but mine's an '03.

Thanks again for your help.

They can last if they are not abused as Immy said, just make sure the one you buy isn’t high, has a good clutch pedal and again as immy said check the service history for drivetrain servicing.

That said, changing the gearbox oil won’t affect the life of your clutch so much. If it is a hydraulic clutch bleeding it when you bleed the brakes is a good idea.
