2002 K11 full cvt change/flush procedure?

Hi, sorry if this has been covered but I couldn't find the specific answer with a search.

I have a 2002 K11 with a CVT box, it's done nearly 120k now, and had a CVT flush from a local garage around the 60k mark, but now it's started whining when warm and being generally slugish, so I think it's time for a clean up.

There is a small leak on the gearbox (coming from the oil filter which will be changed too) so it's been continuously topped up with Dextron III for the last 4 years (I did drain it once and refill too about 2 years ago), but now I have got 5L of NS1 so want to do a full change, too tight to pay the dealer who charged £390 last time.

I understand the sump only contains about half the oil, so my question is how do you get the remainder out DIY style? I had to change the radiator last year so know there's a cooler system built into that, do you disconnect one of those hoses and drain it until the new fluid runs through? If so which one is the "out" from the gearbox? (I would assume it's the hose that connects to the bottom of the CVT housing, is that right?).

Sorry to be a pain but we've had this car since new and it's like a member of the family, the wife is a bit scared to drive it now because of the whine (usually does it when warm and pulling away from a standstill, doesn't do it while cruising) and I'm a strong believer in not fixing what's not broke but the Mrs is insistent (you know, happy wife, happy life) so I'm just looking for a bit of guidance on how to complete it, any ideas on the whine too? To my untrained ear it souldn't like a bearing.

Or... is it safe just to drain the sump and top it up with NS-1? Will the Dextron III & NS-1 work together OK?

Thanks in advance!

Just to follow up incase someone else experiences this, I drained 3 litres out the cvt drain plug, put 3 litres back in through the dipstick, then disconnected the bottom pipe from the gearbox sump (the one that connects on the other end to the bottom of the radiator - oh and put your finger over the pipe sticking out the sump otherwise the new oil will drain out), put the pipe into a 1 litre milk bottle and got the Mrs to start the engine, waited until a litre had been pumped out, yelled at her to stop, put pipe back on, put 1 litre of new fluid back into the gearbox, repeated again (this gearbox takes 5 litres) and just around the point where it was almost 1 litre pumped out again, the fluid turned from a dark brown to bright red, so I stopped there and put the last litre in the box, bolted everything back together and all is good.

The whine is still there but no where near as noticeable, I suspect a bearing has been permanently damaged, now though she has her mojo back and it's like driving a new car. Took us a couple of hours to complete, no way in hell I'd ever take a car to a garage and pay the £400 +VAT I was quoted for it this time again.

Hi mate thanks for posting this, but how come you can't just drain 2 litres instead of 1 litre at a time?
