Cutting springs

Hey all

I want to lower the car more at the front due to replacing struts with kyb last season, i have already cut a coil off 1 spring and 2 of another, but both on the drivers side keep going a bit lob sided (causing a wee camber when put back on the car) just wondering what would cause this and anything i can do to rectify or am i cutting to short

Thanks

Not sure what you mean by lopsided causing camber??
the spring is not meant to sit straight on the shaft, this stops the shock being put into being when loaded.

this is how i ran at the end of last season, replaced strut and still nothing, took off and noticed it was at a angle, thought it was how i put it on to be honest but had a garage put that 1 on the other day and still the same (with both springs)

are you sure somethings not just bent?

Its the shape of the spring. Not much you can do about it. Shouldn't cause any camber issues whatsoever thats down to the lower strut mounts

so it seems normal how the top sits like it does in top pic. I was going to replace all that side to be sure (stated on another thread) until i found the top of the strut like that i thought that might of caused it (well hoping). Also its ok to cut the spring as much as i have?

Thanks again all

this is why im so afraid to even think about chopping springs to lower my car for free
Yeah with you there bud, just i have to cause i would look like Mr Soft going down the track lol and when i put stiffer shocks on (kyb g shock) it lifted the front up a bit so what more off them lol

It looks bent to me. I would dismantle shock and make sure it's all straight.
Which part bud? I replaced the shocker at the back end of the season due to it being like this and that was bent a little, when replaced (with a new one) the car still sat the same as in pic above, now when removed again i noticed the top like it was so i put it down to bad workmanship  but had a garage put it on properly and it still looks like it does

hope that makes sense;)

It doesnt look straight in the pic. Maybe something else being bent/stiff is loading it funny and bending it? Wishbones all straight?

So you not reckon how the top of the strut is sat would cause the car to sit like it does in the pic, if not its back to square one looking into the wishbones and what not grrrr

I dont know mate tbh, it might well. but what is causing your struts to bend? do you hit the top of the wheel during races?
When you replaced the shock for the new one, did the wheel sit straight again for a while?

No it didn't sit straight bud so put it down to something else being bent but cause it was last couple of races i left it knowing i was going to strip another car for parts and like i say i took off again and noticed the top like it was so thought it was how put it on, the other side doesn't sit like that. Will get investigating :)

My guess would be something is not straight/or moving properly which is meaning the strut gets bent. Yeah, just take it all apart and check for bits that don't look right :)

don't think its bent, well hope not at £50 a pop, theres no signs it is or any resistance like on the one i replaced

Cheers again

Its far from normal :p as its a cut spring it doesn't level off like it should to allow the top mount to sit flat.
This still wont cause your camber issue unless you have an elongated top mount hole

Shock/strut look fine to me just the top spring cup and top mount are throwing your eye out
