reposition usb socket

IMG-20130130-00008.jpg
I didn't like the usb in footwell, as it was going to get usb sticks kicked and damaged and I could not reach to swap sticks with mobile phone for charge. It can be moved as in pic without cutting wiring loom. The loom is long enough to relocate. Only just long enough. Have unattached cigar lighter in original position which I can atach with inline fuse to battery when I get around to it.

Excellent job!!! I'll do the same!!! Everyone who sits on the passenger's sit tends to hit the usb! For the cigar lighter, I read on the service manual that can be connected to slot 16 of the fuse box, where the original lighter should be. I didn't opened my fuse box yet, but I'll post as soon as I'll do! Great job!

Extremely unlikely. Would also be expensive. Is there no centre console for a k11? If u must you could make a centre console with aluminium plate, snippers, a pop riveter, sponge and vynil. Really once all centre consoles were made that way particularly on expensive exotic low production cars. You can buy vynil car trim from Woolies.

just seeing if it would be possible, am fitting an almera gti one in mine,

Ps please keep this thread k13, you can discuss k11 on k11

and i'm still discussing the k12 in regards to fitment on the k11 o_O

lol :D you guys are really funny! The K13's centre console is almost 15 cm wide. I believe, if you have enough space between the seats, it will be ok... otherwise you can do few techniques and cut a bit here, a bit there to fit. I'll post tomorrow some pictures with measurements on them so you can have an idea.

Ive got the super s seats whicha re slimmer so might be possible ?
Here are some measurements so you can approximately make an idea:

There is also a rear cup holder that is not in the picture. Total length about 90 cm and width 14 cm. Also the high differs. In the highest part is 14 cm.
micra k13 1.jpg

micra k13 3.jpg

Total length from side to side is about 130 cm.

micra k13 2.jpg

The height of the whole assembly is about 55 cm.

I go camping a few times a year and looking to fit an aux socket to my K13.

when you moved your USB socket, did you spot the wiring for the 12v aux socket by any chance? USB socket wont power a air bed electric pump lol

No, Nissan garage told me the cigar lighter uses the same wiring as the usb thatw why you get one or the other, although that does not seem to make sense to me, cigaar lighter ran from radio???, What ever I saw no wiring for a cigar lighter. You need to run wire from fuse box in car. Nog even easy to get a wire through the bulkhead to battery for an inline fuse. For what u want though crocodile clips and a cigar lighter socket would be fine , just open bonnet and power direct from battery when you need it.

Thats what I was thinking, but was hoping to get one in the car anyway to supply a more powerful phone charger as 500ma just isn't enough when the device is in use! I can see feeding a cable through the bulkhead isn't going to be easy either :'(

Either that or scrap the idea of going in the Micra and just go in the Almera lol

I think you would get more than 500ma if you connect something that does not use data but then as it seems its powered from the head unit if you pull too many amps might blow fuse in head unit. I've put a cigar lighter in the place where the usb went but not connected. Adrian?? pointer to fuse box inside the car is the right way. The link to micra k13 workshop manual posted here should contain all that's needed to find the best place to connect a live. To be honest was hoping someone else would get round to this before me.
For camping 12v to 240v converters are now very cheap and small. Its worth fitting a cigar lighter. PS When I looked at first Micra K13 in Derby at COOP dealer sales man said they had fitted a cigar lighter for one customer.

Hi again!
I've just connected my lighter and I would like to share my experience.

First thing to do is to remove the upper box. Remove the 2 screws inside, then grab the box from inside, there where it swings (grab the black plastic, not the door, it may break).
Then remove the next 2 screws of the lower shelf, and again pull it out.
Remove the fuse cover, which is placed on the side of the console. Pull it out... might be hard at first time.
Remove the 2 screws that hold the fuse box and play the box's way out, there where the shelf should be, so you can have better access to the fuse box.

According to the manual, the lighter shares the same route with the acc fuse. When you turn the back of the fuse box, you can observe that from the blue relay leaves a copper plate. That plate feeds the 12V to the lighter and ACC(accessories). I've soldered my new wire directly to the copper plate. It is tricky to solder because of the plate's heat dissipation properties. Do not worry about the box's plastic, because it is heat resistant (tested it the hard way :) ).

Also between the fuse box and the lighter make sure to have a fuse. I had an old auto fan cable that had a small fuse box and I've used that one.

Here are some photos of the fuse box and some hints: Hope it helps... If you need any help, just reply to this one. I still have to mount a lighter on the second Micra that I own.

And I've placed my lighter inside the shelf, between the 2 boxes. I didn't wanted to reposition the USB because it would be in the way of my drinks :) .

Hi Adrian,

I'm trying to access the fuse box for another mod I'm planning next week and found your post very helpful for pointing me in the right direction.

When removing the upper box, did it put up much of a fight to remove? After removing the two screws at the top inside the box, mine just won't budge. I'm worried about breaking it, but did put most of me weight behind pulling it. Maybe I just need someone with a few more muscles to pull it a bit harder, or maybe I've missed something here?

Thanks
Rabbut

Hi there Rabbut!

I am happy that the post helped you! The upper box is hard to remove because the clips are new and they sit tight inside. There's no worry to break it, there are just 7-9 clips holding it in place. Remove the 2 screws inside the box, do not mind the 3rd one that holds the metal closing bracket, that can be removed after you pull out the box. Grab the box from the inner "ears" with both hands and pull it out. The red arrows in the following picture show where to grab the box. Grab the plastic of the box, not the door. It requires some strength. Also sit tight in the seat, as the box will loose it may pop and slap you in the face ;) believe me you don't want that to happen.

Once you remove all the boxes, undo the fuse screws and remove the fuse box in front, in the place of the upper box. There's the only place you can work. If requires soldering, remove the relays in order not to damage them due to the iron heat. The fuse box do not come out much, so you'll have to work with the soldering iron inside, so be careful not to damage the plastics with the iron hot tip. I used heat shrinking tubes to isolate the soldered wires.

Best regards, A.

The size of that glovebox is awful compared to the K12 one! I'm convinced I could hide a dead body in there!

HAHAHAHAHA!!! Indeed... and it's almost useless... I wish they would have done the door to open from up->down, so I could use it as a mini-table... to hold some cups of coffee or something else. Also the view inside is very bad while sitting in the seat... I have to bend to see inside. Also there is another glovebox under the shelf... not the best size either. There are some details that haven't been though very clever. ;)

Hi 'Adrian17'... can you take a picture from the fuse box cover? I need the fuse map (mine is missing).

Also, there is another fuse box somewhere (not under the hood but inside the car) that is very hard to find. Anyone knows its location??

Hi Jap!

Here are 2 pics of the cover (1 with flash, 1 without).
The engine fuse box has another fuse compartment under the main box. What are you looking for? I've searched the service manual and it doesn't say anything for any other fuse box.
