Will a blow through system work on standard carbs?

Hi guys,

I have a question and I need some advice
I have a td04 turbo from a wrx scooby, and I do want to turbo my ma10.

What would I need to complete it?

So far I have gathered

Td04 turbo with down pipe and oil feed,
Oil return
Inter cooler, and inter cooler piping
Dump valve
Exhaust manifold modified with the td04 flange
Custom intake pipe and come filter

Once welded will I be able to bolt everything on? Will it work ok with the standard carbs? And can I adjust the carbs to run with the blow through system?

Is it possible and can it be done?

Thanks

Its possible but a td04 with intercooler is going to be very laggy. Big turbo small engine.
You'll need a fuel regulator in there some where along with an electronic fuel pump.
Other little bits like sump return fitting.
You use the standard ma10 carb as its sealed its just fueling that's the issue. Other than your ignition timing
You would already be running the carb on blow through?

Before anything gets welded check, check and check again. Then weld. Or tack and test fit

What if I was to swap the engine with a MA12?

Fuel regulator? And electric fuel pump?

Anyone got any links or pictures of current fuel systems at hand ?

Sump return ill ebay it.. That's not a problem.

To cut lag should I forget the cooler?

Ill be trail fitting it with tack before welding yeah

Wont make much difference the ma10 is just as capable :)
The current system is a mechanical fuel pump regulated by the carb. Thats the lump next to the inlet
Yea forget the intercooler as the td04 wont spool fast to generate hot air at the low rpm :)

Are we certain the ma10/12 carb is sealed enough for blowthrough? That's one of the reasons I was gonna go drawthrough

Oh okay. How would I go about wiring an electric fuel pump? What LPH would suitable?

If the td04 doesn't spool hit air I take it would pretty efficient ?

Reason I say the ma12 is because its a larger standard replacement and easiest way to more power? Isn't it?

I had tdo4 on my ma10, :) spooled up fine for me mate.

I used the mechanical pump to feed swirl pot that fed electric pump, into boost referenced regulator
Bolt on a r5 Gtt carb, plenty about,

Then again, my tdo4 is from a Saab, and has a totally different exhaust housing than everyone else's, wonder if that made a difference

Yea its fine not for mega boost it can cope around 8psi iirc. Me and Ed (fusion) spoke about it a while ago :)

There's a fuel pump guide I put to help pick the right pump for your build :) wiring is simple positive and earth. On a switch or on with the ignition :)
The td04 will spool 8psi alot easier than say a gt15. It is efficient as you say but cross a mega hot day with track use it may get a tad warm
Yea the ma12 will gain a couple of hp but cost effective approach is keep the ma10.

Pork what kind of power did you make and what was the response from the td04 like?

Do you have a build thread for your td04 ma10 build? If you have done it I'd follow in your footsteps and repeat your way

With the r5 carb is any modification needed? Or is it genuinely a bolt on? And will it fit a ma12?

Sorry for all the questions lol

Thanks mate! Ill have a look..

Will the standard clutch cope with the power?

Modification wise it's just the exhaust manifold welding

Sump plug fitting

And fitting the fuel pump. Would the regulator be needed?

R5 carb will need adapter plate

I done mine with bike carbs

Here a video of power ;)

Porks bike carb and boost project

With any carb that isn't designed for boost, fuel enrichment on boost will be a big problem, so you'll need a plenum with a pitot tube

Look at uncle bobs turbo bike page......I basically copied everything from that, really useful

Interesting..........want another k10 :(

That is bloody quick for a k10!!

I'm going to stick with the original carb set up and use an ma12 for reliability and those extra horses. (I'm getting one cheap)

That way I can build the setup out of the car and fit it all at once.

So I guess my real problem will be the fuelling

The electric pump will sit in line where the manual one is, wired to the ignition and willl pump fuel at a higher pressure.

The regulator will sit after the fuel pump and will allow me to adjust the fuel pressure by bleeding fuel back to the tank?

Is that right? Once I sort that I will be good to go and boot everything together?

Sort off, you could try putting your carb in a 'box' lol

The fuel regulator you need has to have a feed from the boost to increase pressure as the boost pressure rises, otherwise fuel will be forced out of the carb
(Boost referenced FPR) google it :)

Then you need to figure fuel enrichment, very important or it goes bang

So did you did it? I am having the same idea as you, i have a ma12 too
