Firstly, a massive thanks to Karl for organising the clubs events this year. I know how much of a ball ache it can be to do, and I personally feel it's a massive let down, not only to you, but to the club that despite members asking for meets to be organised, hardly anybody has made an effort to attend yesterday.

Japfest 2, it was embarrasing. We had an excellent plot next to the rolling road and globe of death which attracted a lot of people, but we had just TWO Micras on display, and the first time I can remember, we didn't even have a K11. At previous ISTS, Japfest, JAE and others shows in previous years, we've had huge turnouts, so why aren't you coming? I know there's still plenty of you out there. The price of the shows is similar to what it has always been too.

Ant drove down from Scotland, and Will & I came up from the South, these events are worth it!

If this continues, It will get to the point that the MSC won't even be seen as big enough to have a plot, so making our presence at shows come to an end. A massive disaster for the MSC. The best bit about being a member of this great club is getting together with you guys, catching up, showing off our pride and joys and just having a bloody good day, so I really want to see more of you next time.

I battled until the very last moment to have my car ready for its MOT in time, and almost tried driving it there with no MOT. When I did arrive, in a fiesta with L plates, nobody on the stand seemed bothered or enthused at all...
I think a combination of excessive weather and poor turnout are to blame, but turnout is always going to be sketchy.
That said, last show I went to my car was one of only 2 shown and it was awesome because we had a theme for out club stand and it was a laugh. Walking sticks, zimmer frames, flat peak caps and slippers might be the order next time?

The trouble is though you need a good gathering to boost club spirit and encourage banter amongst everyone. If it's you and a few others, you do kinda think what's the point which is exactly how I felt, but the whole idea is trying to avoid that. Weather cannot be predicted and the stand passes would have been bought well in advance of the show, so that cannot be blamed for the turnout, even more so as it was sunny and not stormy.

Thanks Alan I couldn't have said it better myself, I know I should have been there but I couldn't bring myself to bring the astra (which turns out was a wise choice)

I'm still happy to organise the meets but if people put their names down to come, they should come not um and err.

At least next year I'll have my 2 k10s out and about attending every show. Even managing my first MSC JAE this year... and I'd like to meet you all ;)

I'm trying to get mine running :D

When it is, I plan to go everywhere !!

Best to wait till next year Neil, Retro Rides Gathering is in August and JAE in September.

I would organise trax but that's the first week of September and most will be preparing for jae

This sucks big style, especially after how smashing Japfest and PPC was. We had pretty decent turnouts for both.

Might just be a bit of a lul at the moment. I haven't been browsing the forums nearly as much as I used to as it's gotten a bit crap here lately.

I'm certain JAE will make up for it, looks like we'll have an even bigger turnout than last year with some quality cars and members heading up there.

I know forums can go up and down in terms of activity, but you guys make it what it is. No matter how good the online community is, I've always felt the offline one is even better! JAE is a prime example of how great this club is, but people shouldn't be put off coming to the one day events either.

How has it got crap?

You've still got the core people here sparking excellent and in depth discussion (the '5 cheap mods' thread for example) but at the same time the forum is full of the same questions being asked over and over again, thread derailments constantly. I pop in every day and have a quick browse but it's just not inspiring like it was when i joined with first Micra.

I agree fully with you there mate! It does go up and down on here sometimes but the community is, for the most part, pretty sweet online. As soon as I hit up events with you chaps I've got a ton of memories to take away, it's always a ton of fun being around you lot. I guess that's why I get frustrated with the forum sometimes as the quality doesn't always reflect the true nature of the people here.

Beyond pumped for JAE and Retro Rides. Everyone should show their faces if they can, and let's get lots of Micras nice and shiny for JAE and tearing up the hillclimb for RR...

That's fair enough and I agree there's a lot going on that no one is posting about , Chris with his rebuild, my own cga3 build and even the nutty professor himself seems to have calmed down a fair bit.

But that doesn't explain why people are so reluctant to come to organised meets

Well for my part I'm sorry to say it's all about finances....or rather lack of :( Once I am back in full time employment I aim to attend some meets and meet more of you lovely people :)

12hrs driving for a 1 day event? I refuse to do that for any show, its like me expecting all you southeners to turn up at the up and coming scottish car show in glasgow.

JAE is my thing, even more now its longer and the things i didnt like will be rectified

See you all there!

(If yous turn up lol)

I went to a couple of shows with the msc last year with my last k11, and the turnouts were pretty good for both (Japfest & Japfest 2)
I'd happily attend more shows and represent the msc, just atm what with car problems + not enough money it hasn't been easy but as soon as I can I'll be taking the march to as many as possible :)

I see your point Alan. I too was on the receiving end of such turnout when on previously organised events.

The main issue seems to be driven by money for most. It's the MSC, we own Micras and by default are not loaded. The most frustrating thing is a lack of communication and prior planning. This is why JAE is planned almost immediately after the previous one is done, so people can plan time off work, save the necessary money and collaborate together to make it. We have people from all over the country supporting eachother for that with convoys, pool caring, sharing tents etc....so the spirit is not dead. Some of that team spirit could be spread out I'm sure......I know a lot of people will get a buzz from it. We used to be a very close knitt club and do a lot of things together in the past.

I personally haven't attended much in a long time due to being abroad, (did make JAE 2012 though) ;) Until I get my car completed, which is taking a back seat until I buy a house, (much more important), I will continue to be a bit of a ghost. I will also reluctantly miss JAE this year due to Goodwood Revival being on the same weekend, (tickets already bought).
Once I have my SuperS sorted, I will be open to suggestions for trackdays and meets, (pending road legality of course), and will happily lend a hand to drumming up some interest for future meets :)

To counter that, Karl has done a really good job in advertising events well in advance. The dates, locations and prices are clearly specified in the threads that are created, which are also stuck to make them even more visible. I guess money could be an issue, or location, etc, it's just it was a massive flop compared to last year, which obviously was the same location, date and price. Anyway, looking forward to JAE. A shame you won't be coming Dave but it's also on Thursday and Friday if you wanted to pop up for a couple of days!

i was far from surprised on the outcome, there was no "build-up/interest" on the japfest2 thread tho eh
i fired a couple of posts onto the thread but they fell on deaf ears

I was referring to lack communication and planning of the people that bailed. i.e. booking something and then not planning for it and then not telling anyone they weren't going to attend. Sure, sometime there are extenuating circumstances but not normally on such a scale.
