Struggling to lower rear :(

o and h701 have you actually fitted polo 6n coilovers to your. i need to know if you can just put the k11 top mount onto the fronts? or if theres a thread would be great

Mine are fitted but to a k10 so I dont know if there would be much difference. I put the top cup on the spring and the micras top mount directly on top. Other than modifying the bottom bushes and mount they were an easy fit

yeh thats what i thought you had to do. only thing i dont understand is why you have to fit top cup from the micra on as they already come with the springs already in little top cups. im thinking of getting these http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/COILOVER-...arts_Vehicles_CarParts_SM&hash=item3a80ce429f how on earth am i meant to fit the top mount ontop that. there no thread left at the top of the coilover to fit it.

You dont have to use the micra spring cup as well, it just gives a good footing for the use of the micra top bearing. Like i was saying about my polo ones you dont have to use the micra bearing, just one that fits and suits the application.

o i see. so chucking top mount on the coilover will do the job. all this bearing business is confusing. where is the actual bearing. in the top mount?

The bearing on a micra is a crappy plastic thing that sits between the spring cup and the top mount, if you take apart your front strut you'll see what i mean. The reason people use the micra top spring cup is cause it allows you to use that bearing with its intended mountings, it does however take up a lot more thread and make assembly a bit iffy (no helper springs usually).

ah i see. but as long as its safe im fine with that. only thing id have to watch out for is the drilling out of one of the bottom mount holes. ill order them once i know what my balance is.

Ive not seen how others have mounted polo fronts at the top, the use of the micra top cup is how a few of the guys on corsas have done it though im sure it would work with polos too, you just have to make sue its all safe before you run with it.

The bearing on the k10 is inside the top mount. You need a bearing to allow the movement at the top for the up and down travel
Never known a bearing to be plastic though?
The coilover top spring cup is adequate but you need some sort of rubber washer for protection for the top mount

i read through that and i didnt understand a word of what they were saying. i reckon the polo coilovers will be ok with the micra top mount and bearing. should be safe.
the corsa coily is designed to fit under the factory corsa top mount, the k11 top mount is a very different design, that nylon thrust washer/bearing supports the full weight of the car, and allows the spring to rotate with the steering, and it will outlast the car :)

I left my micra ones on my old struts so the coilies dont knacker them if i wanna go back anytime lol, heavy duty golf bearing/washers here now :)

omg you guys are killing me ;) so if i get the polo coilovers im going to have to get a better bearing :/

You dont have to, just i did cause it saved taking my old struts apart and using washers and tosh to make it fit

yeh my plan is the spring cup then a nylon washer then the top mount. joe did you drill out one of the bottom mount holes into the strut or did you have to make the hole bigger to the outside of it. if you know what i mean? cause i know there isnt a lot of metal left if i need to file out a hole to the outside

You take the rubber bush out grind the mount down to the right size and a bit less. Bring the bush down to same width. Then have two large rubber/nylon washers either side (that's why you grind down a bit more)

I made my own poly bushes to suit

the rear ones you mean?

yeah for the rears cause from the lowering guide you need to take off quite a bit :/

easy job getting the rubber bushes off :/ never ending work this this business ;)

5-6mm either side iirc
No not really there a right pain. But I cut mine one side and pressed it out. Used a large rubber/nylon washer to cover missing side. Then I ended up with those poly things
Not always a bad thing if its your living :p

wow 5 mm either side  on the lowering guide its just grinded down on one side of the shock tho. i assume its works just as well if you do both sides. id rather do both sides rather than just one so its looks more balnced than just cut to F***

That's exactly why I did both :)
This second set are here. Picked em up last night. I'll get a few pictures of how (and when) I put em together

You can't do if both sides for the k11 or the coilovers will catch on the boot recess and wear stuff away and squeak and basically just won't work.
You have to do it all on one side to achieve enough offset to clear the underside if the car.

o. is it solid because in the lowering guide it looks like a right bodge job.

Jeez are you a worry wort Ash ;) Get on and get it done, plenty have done it before you and afaik none have died in a fiery ball of doom.........!! ;) Yet

ha i know i am ;) was just asking cause it looks dodgey but as soon as they arrive ill wack em on! only micra like it about so will actually be original. rather than the traditional corsa saxo rubbish rolling about ;)

yes eventually! if my mate can help me sunday then we will get the job done. ill have to hit him if he turns around and says no cause this micra on steels is killing me!

Yeah mine are solid mate, they handle what I throw at them and ade can back up they must be solid after that :p.
The ones on the lowering guide are also solid, been run like that well over a year iirc and his cars fine

Good! just waiting upon delivery. hoping they would be here today as iv not got work but there not here so off on a road trip in my mates mk1 mk5 ;)

The only difference with corsa to polo is that you mod the bottom less, you'll still have to find a way of doing the top mount so make sure youve got some bits handy lol

joe if you have seen the corsa b/c coilover setup on the lowering guide, do you reckon i could just use the same way they did there top mounts on my polo coilovers? seems like a half decent way.

Yeah you can do it like that I believe, I didn't try with mine though

bought polo bearings off ebay think they will do the job!

Where is your top spring cup??

There should be metal cup which sits on top of the spring which the shock pokes through.

They look fine otherwise mate.

ill put that on a second. but just dont understand. thought they were meant to slam the car not make it higher

That's 70mm on a polo remember... And also was the weight of the car on them in those photos? The helpers were barely compressed!

yeh but 70mm on a micra will still do quite a bit. how do you compress them fully then. thats what iv been spending all morning trying to figure out. uhm no the weight isnt on them there
