GT-R engine and gearbox swap? Is it even possible?

I'm going to have to do a lot more research into this but just a quick question, obviously everything is going to be different like mounts etc but just wondering if an RB26DETT would fit in the K11 engine bay, battery etc can be moved to the boot, but as it's a 4WD gearbox the front wheels need to line up with the front drive part. Does anybody know if this has been done before anywhere? I know SR20DET swaps have been done but not sure about this, any help would be greatly appreciated, I'm not thinking of doing this any time soon, was just an idea I've had floating around for a while. Thanks in advance for any help :)

SR20s look pretty huge in the bay of a K11 as is... With the RB26 you've got 2 more cylinders thrown into the equation, so the unit is much longer...

Nothing is impossible though. I'd love to see an RB26 mounted vertically with the firewall pushed back!

Money no object... Then yes.
Real world... See above.

New custom floorpan and bulkhead, shortened props and driveshafts, and custom everything else........ Ill build this if I ever win lottery jackpot.

Yeah they're all mounted lengthways with another with another 2 cylinders down the line, I want it to be my project for a few years time but don't want to make life incredibly difficult for myself haha, don't want to have to modify body panels etc, I want it to be a k11 though as it was my first car

If you dont want to modify panels then stay away from 4wd micra idea. Read the build that glen posted... You would need to do that and some more. Sr20 micra is good fun and simple in comparison.

Heres an idea for u...... Rwd, mount the engine in the back.
4wd.. 2 sr20s one in front, one in back.

Hmm SR20 still gives you a big load of power and fun, just wanted to do something unique, I mean hopefully I'll win the lottery and jobs a sausage but this is the dream, a lot of work but it would be well worth it at the end, would probably cost the same as buying a GT-R nowadays

plus insurance plus running/maintenance cost plus MOT and emissions (would the CO still be measured against the reg details ie k11?)

more like mid mounted running the front diff onto the rear wheels of the micra and blank off the rear output. 600bhp anybody?!!
