Matt's Daily Puma

euro_micra

Matt :)
So with the turboed Micra becoming a little crude and drinking n smoking oil, flooding when cold etc. I've decided to retire it from commuting the 55miles to work and back through city traffic and motorways. It will now have the interior completely stripped and the engine rebuilt for top-end bhp and will be used as a bit of fun.

As it's replacement I've bought this Ford Puma. It's got a 1.7 16v Verible Cam Timing 125bhp(ish) engine. Weighs 1070kg's, so it's got a similar power to weight ratio to the cg10+t Micra. However, it pulls much better at low rpms in any gear and is a piece of piss to drive around town. Comes with e/w, e/m, a/c, heated rear and windscreen, a superb heater, and does it in silence(it's so bloody quite inside compared to the Micra). Out of town, the Micra just beats it to 60mph, Puma does it in 8.8seconds when new apperantly. But the Puma kicks the Micra's ass above 60mph and does it all without drama.

So that's how I picked it up. Stock 15" alloys sprayed black, aftermarket mudflaps and stainless steel backbox. Minimal arch rust(best I've seen) some o/s wing rust, a slipping clutch, but 8months mot, for £450. Seems like a good project to run and maintain.

Things to do:
Service.
Rust removal & prevention.
Sell s/s backbox and replace with stock one.
Remove mudflaps and fit puma mudguards.
New suspension and engine bushes.
New suspension(I like the rally esque look atm so I might not bother lowering it).
Replace the tiny ford fiesta brakes for larger focus ones.
Fit aftermarket stereo from Micra.
Then consider what wheels to fit as I'm not a fan of the current ones. 4x108 , oh so many choices

Fancy escort?!? It's a fiesta in a pretty(ish) dress

Nice buy Matt :) quite fancy these myself, even if they are a hairdressers car :p

Aye, most of the parts are from a fiesta:oops:
But it's a nice looking coupe I think, the design still looks quite fresh to say it's 15 years old. Yeah Karl, bit of a hairdressers car especially in red or yellow, this green and black theme's not too bad.
Not sure how long I'm keeping it for though, just using it as a stop gap atm, I've really fancied a classic saab 900 turbo for the last year but not come across a good one in budget.

A posh Mk4 Fiesta?

How's your rear wheel arches? :p They rot straight through, kinda like most Fords.

These 1.7's aren't bad though ;)
