Wheel Change Improvisations.

So my friend rang me at half 10 this evening saying he had a flat tyre. He's in a wheelchair so couldn't change the wheel on his own, and I was the only one that answered my phone. Being nice I drove out to go and change it for him.

Here comes my question, after taking the wheel nuts off, we found that due to the wheel not being removed at all in it's three year life it was seized solid to the hub. I've never changed a wheel outside of my own driveway and so wasn't too sure how I was going to go about freeing it. Had a search around for something blunt to try and whack it with, even tried giving it a stern hard kick.

How would you go about freeing it up without access to a hammer/block of wood or similar? (this is for future reference incase I'm in the same situation again). I ended up giving him a lift home and we're going to go back tomorrow in the daylight, as it'll probably be a bit easier to free up when it's colder, and I'll be tooled up this time. But still.

Thanks all.

give it as many hard kicks as possible. stand facing away from the car and kick backwards on the front then the rear of the tyre eventually it'll come free but i've spent over an hour doing it before..... :(

That was what I was going for, but decided to give up when I'd near enough broken my foot.

Went down with a hammer today, took all of 5 minutes but bloody hell that put up a fight.

Mind doing it with a hammer on the rim, it will damage it if its an alloy, i generally leave a nut/bolt in loose and kick seven bells of **** out of it til it pops off (hence leaving a nut/bolt in so it doesnt flick out and catch your other shin) and just mind those terrible scissor jacks too
