Dattosan Machi Suzuki twincam 4wd project pg22

broke the exhaust manifold on cats eyes whilst overtaking lol

Dunno how to get more clearance unless I raise it, but I wanted it lower :(

Pics later of repairs :)

The new gearbox jumps out of 3rd, its useless!

I dropped out the gear oil and put new oil in. I also made a new much lighter gear knob.

Alas it still pops out of gear :( I might go scrappy and get another gearbox :)

 bent fork you reckon kev ? would a stronger indent spring help maybe ?

Dunno tbh Frank :l I dont know enough anout gearboxes! Although i do intend too make these 2 dead boxes into 1 working spare box :)

What's an indent spring? Iam off to go Google indent spring :D

Sounds like a challenge :D

I have stripped, checked and rebuilt 3 Ford boxes at uni. Rwd type 9 box, which was relatively easy. Fwd escort box, which was terrible and I hated it and then formula Ford quick change hewland box, quick and easy that one :D

But all boxes had been steam cleaned and were mint

I think indent springs hold the syncros in or a ball and spring on selector shaft i think

Adjustable fuel regulator is a different fitment! My options are too make a take off to replace the stock reg or mod the rail. Or get a new regulator.

However, I have just discovered that you can crush or dimple the stock regulator for more pressure. I just need a pressure gauge so that I dont go too far. It works on most regulators!

Ill report back once I have results :)

you just remove the smaller O ring inside your reg kev, and fuel flows straight through it (then into the adjustable one eh)

B16 turbo manifold.

Micra port spacings are 80-80-80, b16 is 90-80-90!

Inner runners will weld straight up, 2 outer runners need tweaking.

Has 38mm external wastegate port, which ill use :D and t3 flange, which ill swap out for td04 flange.

Sweet nice one Frank (Y) tbh Iam still gonna try crushing it too see what happens!

How much do you want for the crank sensor setup? Might fit my megasquirt :)

Ok so the last few days I have put serious thought into boosting my micra. This is all thanks to the dad I never had mr. Frank :D haha

Well I will see how frank gets on in the near future!

But Iam getting close to swapping pistons and things about for hi compression.

I cannot decide whether to go Hi comp now and stay na then build a low comp cg10 in the future.

Or get the head off, open out the chambers too lower the comp then slap it back together with cams, turbo and megasquirt (or stock management modded)

Help me decide :D

Parts I have:
Megasquirt
Td04
Pulsar ic
spare cg13

Haha lol (Y)

No that is very weak :( I'd recommend more somehow (Y)

Is that common practice to take oil feed from there? I was gonna use the pressure switch with a threaded spacer! Hel can do me anything over the counter for a tenner :D

cheers, and i think the jury is out on the oilfeed tap-off kev, and it flies out the pipe but flows very slow through the tub (it has absolutely zero shaft play btw)
and try a google search on "high compression low boost" i think the honda boys have been doing it for years (no lag/efficient offboost cruising etc )

Tbh Frank it probably would fly out of the turbo if the drain had a small bore like the feed, I imagine the bearing is a huge restriction :)

Hi comp as in 10:1? Or 12:1? :D a lot of guys on swift gti forums push 10psi on stock engines, a lot of the parts I have are from my swift gti engined mini that I was planning on boosting :)

i,m thinking 11:1 max kev, i guess its the limit of pumpfuel.
mine,s probably gonna have 125hp at best, but i,m hoping for a big gain in midrange grunt :) SR20-esque  (with CG handling)

Personally I think 11:1 is pushing your luck on pump fuel and no remap

And no intercooler

Madness :D

Iam aiming for stock compression setup with either front mount ic or maybe use the pace charge cooler kit I have. I got the charge cooler kit for 100 off of eBay but its missing the rad and resevoir, I got for a mk2 fiesta zetec I had, was gonna get boosted lol

I need to try and find my megasquirt :)

I started some headwork.

Stock port
IMAG0330.jpg

Started to remove casting marks
IMAG0329.jpg

Some of the porting and knife edging the devider
IMAG0328.jpg

The blend from seat to port throat, I've done a lot of work here to remove the steps and crapness
IMAG0331.jpg

IMAG0332.jpg

Some more of partially worked ports
IMAG0336.jpg

IMAG0337.jpg

IMAG0339.jpg

Also started to polish the chambers and smooth in the seats. Can't do much deshrouding as head gasket is too close
IMAG0340.jpg

At the bottom of the seat there is a ditch in the port. It'll hurt flow and i don't know where to start nodding to help it. Filling and resgaping would be good. Poor design and poor machining! Thanks nissan :)

Did you grind around the back of the guide to get rid of the ditch?

Looks good, thanks for the pic!

Have modded the chambers?

And thanks karl (Y)

Yeah I haven't opened out the ports much at all, just cleaned away lumps and edges. The transition from ports to seats is mostly done.

Did you do much on the exhaust side?

Some of the lobes have pretty bad damage on Kent cams :(
sorry for bad pic! They are useable but not ideal and they were also mega cheap :)
IMAG0343.jpg

I measured each lobe so that I can machine the cga3 valves too suit my cams. iam hoping they won't need to much alterations with shims :)
IMAG0345.jpg

A butterfly just landed next to me whilst writing this post
IMAG0346.jpg

At lunch today I found some parts in my store shed

Pace chargecooler kit for a cossie.
IMAG0348.jpg

Bag of hoses, wiring and pumps ect for cooler. Just need rad and resevoir!
IMAG0349.jpg

Td04l from a wrx, these rock on starlets and swifts and i have more than 2 lol
IMAG0350.jpg

And I managed to find my megasquirt, which reminds me I need to pm Frank. Exciting shizzle!

Are you selling some parts? I am very interested in the butterfly :D how many miles has it done? any rust problems?

Nice finds... I would be glad if I find a turbo in my garage

Sorry man the butterfly isn't for sale, if I get anymore I will let you know (Y)

Yeah my garage is full of treasures, I have bought a lot of things that I didn't really need lol

Last Wednesday my grandad passed away :( I used to see him everyday when i went the workshop ect.

Up until 4/5 months ago he was competing in ploughing competitions. his funeral is on Thursday and we decided to tow hime behind his favourite tractor, a super dexta! Here is a pic of the trailer.

More clutch stuff

Originally my double diaphragm clutch didn't work because i machined back the drive plate to offset the extra spring
IMAG0354.jpg

In the pic below you can see that the rivet touches down on the flywheel just as pressure is applied.
IMAG0355.jpg

I fixed it by replacing the drive plate and maching the extra off of the otherside of plate.

Now ill be able to use my Frank spec clutch plate.
IMAG0356.jpg

IMAG0357.jpg

Now some more cylinder head stuff.

In the pic Iam pointing at the ditch/step. Iam gonna try smooth it out with epoxy resin or epoxy stainless steel.
IMAG0359.jpg

This is standard untouched
IMAG0360.jpg

This is my smoothing work on the bottom of the port/throat. Pretty good shape and smoothnicity :D
IMAG0361.jpg

And this is standard untouched

Made a start on exhaust manifold flanges, it shouldn't take me long too get the manifold and turbo bolted on. Then I need to see about an oil feed pipe. Iam gonna get a long pipe made to reach from the oil pressure switch on the back of the block, around the front too the turbo!

I need to remove and mod the sump for oil return!

Hopefully I will have a new gearbox tonight, just waiting for scrappy to remove one for me, might get another spare asap but serious tempted to go for a cg13 box now!

Also decided on colour and finish for my wheels but gotta enquire first :)

I am sorry for you and your family, but the idea with his favourite tractor ist really nice!

Love this car a lot, which I understood more of the engine stuff!
But thanks for the detail I'm doing my best to learn!

Hey thanks man (Y)

I literally learn something new everyday, either from experience or reading stuff :)

At the moment Iam reading up on jet engines! I want to build my own valveless pulse jet engine and also a turbojet engine :D Iam making a flame gulper engine at the mo :D

Pretty much finished the head. just gotta give it a damn good clean off now.

all the inlet valves have been ground back and just need checking for valve clearance.

If you haven't changed anything else other than the head work and get it up on the same rollers you used last time, it will be very interesting to see what happens, especially since no-one has done a direct comparison to date.

It wont be a completely solid comparison mind due to the car bot being fully optimized completely on either setup but as a straight bolt with some fuel pressure fiddling it will be interesting for people considering the DIY approach.

Looking forward to seeing the results :)

Yeah dude I use the same rollers every time.

However Iam fitting head and cams at the same time so won't be ideal but still good to know what difference they make!

The plan is as follows.

Finish + fit new engine
Test new engine
Fit megasquirt
Test megasquirt
Then turbo once megasquirt ect is pukka

Iam going for as much power as possible with megasquirt, td04 and stock engine! Maybe 140-150hp being sensible :)
