Adjustable rear panhard rod

Hi again,

Going to fit my SPAX dampers with 60mm springs soon.

But I am SO confused :eek:! Is it true I need an adjustable Rear Panhard Rod? If so why and what will happen if I keep the standard one on with my new suspension setup?

Excuse me but I don't even know what an adjustable Rear Panhard Rod does and what the hell is the difference between on car and off car rods?!

I WILL be back...
You definitely need one with lowering springs. As Frank says, you'll find that your axle will shift to the offside, meaning your nearside rear wheel will sit further into the arch

Oh ok. So on car is better then? Is there anything else at all I need when fitting my new suspension setup apart from the rear adjustable panhard rod?

You don't really need anything else other than an adjustable panhard rod when you lower a car, apart from uprated dampers all round

Stani - my offside rear wheel is scrubbing the inside of the arch, whereas the nearside rear wheel is sitting further in by about 1cm/2cm

How much for the spax?

I happened to phone Matt for other parts, but then I was asking about suspension and he said he had some good condition second-hand spax damper set that was taken off a car. They are over £250 brand new from Matt, but I got them for £150 posted! What a result!

remember to also readjust the brake bias compensator valve near the rear left upper trailing arm so the devices swing arm is slightly pulled away from the internal valve pins by the middle rod nut when car is level otherwise the lowering will cause the compensator spring to push against the valve and restrict fluid to/from the rear brakes making em more likely to bind

Oh my, I DO NOT HAVE A CLUE HOW TO DO THIS OR WHAT THIS MEANS AT ALL :eek:! PLEASE HELP ME :(

i must admit paul i never done this could be worth a shot although half of that didnt make much sense!

also tracking may need to be done

k few diagrams

when resting at stock height the little nut at the end of the spring rod pulls the bias arm away from the internal valve plunger, so to zero pressure on the valve the brake fluid can flow in & out freely

when the rear is lowered below stock the nut no longer pulls the arm back at rest and instead allows the spring to push up against the bias arm which then applies force against the valve plunger causing a constant restriction.
when braking, the brake pressure from the master cylinder can overcome this restriction, rear brakes would respond a little slower

but when releasing the brake pedal the rear brakes return spring may not be strong enough to overcome this restriction so the fluid retains the pressure and the brakes bind

so what you need to do is lower the nut till it pulls the bias arm back out, just enough to relieve pressure off the bias valve

Ok thanks very much guys, but I still do not understand at all (I'm not that technically advanced to understand that diagram!). I think I will need one of you guys to do it for me please :p?

Once I win the Euromillions...
If you slam your car on any shorter than stock springs, the wheels will lean to one side and the car will be unstable, the tyres will wear uneven. The lower you go, the worse it gets. I'm only on 30mm and had to is Frankspeed :laugh: bushes just to avoid buying an adj. panhard rod...
You want 60mm drop... definitely need one. Noddie of here does fantastic on or off-car adj. rods...
