Got spark, got fuel, but not starting...

Hi everyone,

First post from me and it's a problem!

I've got an R-reg Micra, 998cc, that I can't get to start. Started it on Monday without a problem to shuffle around the drive and when I came to start it again yesterday it would crank but not fire. Plugs are wet and stank so there's definitely fuel, i'm also getting a good strong spark. Cleaned and dried out my plugs, stuck 'em back in and hooked the Micra up to another car for a jump start; cranks at full speed but just won't catch :(

Any suggestions?

Cheers,

the k11,s are prone to flooding jackaleks, and you may need to remove the fuelpump fuse to get it to start

If you don't mind my asking, whats a jackalek?

But i too also find pedal pumping at different levels (you notice the car responds differently) works a treat!

Although i swear sometimes it fires up cylinder by cylinder at very minor RPM so a burst of full throttle when that happens and the car springs to life!

Micras are funny things! :')

the previous suggestions
and my one done that= turned out to be ignition switch,it was also flashing engine check light
even the machine was flashing up nats fault= which was incorrect

If you don't mind my asking, whats a jackalek?

ermmm, his name :p

yup :)

cheers guys, the pedal pumping worked!

out of interest what does the "INJ" fuse do in the relay box on the passenger side? when i tested the plugs i pulled this thinking it would stop the fuel (INJ = Injectors?). guess i was wrong judging by the huge amount of smoke that came out when it finally fired!

My K11 developed a very intermittent start problem. Would crank/turnover but not fire/start. Otherwise ran fine in between bouts of non start (no stall issues, no uneven acceleration etc). Felt like a fuel issue to me and the previous owner - not very motor savvy mind - thought it was fuel filter issue.

When the car would not start, radio/dash lights would turn on an go out when key turned, sometimes radio would come on and sometimes not - when the no start problem was happening.

Everything I read on the net seemed to suggest that whilst a ignition switch/barrel might just be the issue, it wasn't necessarily a high contender because the engine cranked and there was no actual firing and a stall at any time.

Jiggling the wires that went into the ignition switch / ignition switch connector turned dash lights on and off with the key in the ignition - so obviously there was a loose connection - but that for a novice like me was not neccessarily the whole problem.

My problem turned out to be ignition barrel/ignition switch.

Swapped those out and the engine started first time. Bought on ebay.

My system was nats2 - transponder key with chip in the key (red cap)
