Kristian is well known within the Micra community for producing unique and eye catching bodywork for the Nissan Micra, as well as this he now lends his hands to quite a large amount of modifications too. This car is one of these examples. His turbo conversion is a well planned out custom job.

It featured a modified SR20DET fuel rail with 370cc injectors, T2 turbo on a modified standard cast manifold, front mount intercooler and custom pipework, on an other wise standard engine.

Initially the airflow meter was placed onto the intake of the turbo, however previously on several cars with this layout problems occour with air turbulence entering the turbo disrupting the airflow signal at idle causing erratic behaviour.

To solve this we told Kristian to move the airflow meter to the intake manifold pipework. This is known as a blow-through MAF installation. We have done this on a few Pulsar GTiRs and Almera in the past so we know that it gives good and very sharp results.

Whilst this was being done we modified the standard ECU and installed a base map on it. Almost immediately on the first turn of the key the car jumped into life. Not bad considering it had not been run in months.

So off to the dyno we went. The first problem that showed up was the fuel pressure. So a fuel pressure gauge was then fitted and it was discovered that the FPR was faulty and static rail pressure was 2bar - not 3bar! Also a lockout test was done on the pump this showed 4 bar of pressure. Not really enough but it was all we could do for now.

So with the FPR fixed things rapidly moved forwards. The turbo was making 0.7 bar boost and immediately 160BHP was made (ok we cheated as we had a map we developed for a previous Micra Turbo), again unsurprisingly due to the weak pump this was as far as we could go - for now. However good power was made and as a result the car now goes very well indeed. And it looks pretty good too.
