when you open the bonnet its on teh right hand side of the engine bay check the water in the radiator and also in the over flow tank

right. checked the coolant and it was all full of mayonaise colour and also the other one (the one thats right at the front silver funny cap thing, water goes in that too)
well anyway there both full of mayonaise colour. i've been told that my head-gasket its on its way out!! :( .... frank how do i take the coolant off so i can clean it all up m8. thanks alot!

sounds like its the headgasket, check your oil level and see if it moves over the next couple days if your still driving the car that is? any white smoke coming from the exhaust once heated up?

most engines get some mayo under the cap so dont rightoff the headgasket yet :wasntme:,
i would top it up and try a couple of short runs first, and check the guage.
then fill the rad to the brim and check for bubbles :)

right thanks guys... and no im not driving it! should i put some water in the coolant for now then frank or should i leave it? by the way the coolant is completely full of dat stuff.. i wana take it out and clean it proper. can any1 tell me how to take it out with out damaging it please! and the other one with the silver tap 2 please!

thats just a catchtank nainy (mine was binned years ago :wasntme:) you can take the bottom hose off the rad if you want to change the water, but i would top it up and test the system out first (it may just be a leak somewhere, mine had a tiny hole in one of the hoses last year, which baffled me for days trying to find )

just take the 2 pipes off, shove the garden hose into the bigger pipe/hose (wrap some rag around for a snug fit) and flush it out :)

remember to turn the heaters to Hot to fully flush the system.

you have to remove the thermostat and temporary screw back on the housing when flushing with a garden hose from the top pipe. this is cos the the thermostat has a small 1-way valve and the main valve is normally closed when cold therefore water is just gona squirt back out if not removed.

flush till the water coming out is clear

clean, dry and reseal the thermostat back into it's housing. wait till sealant dries, reconnect all pipes then fill up with coolant. occasionally squeeze the top pipe while rad cap is off to burp out all trapped air.

btw check under ur oil cap and dipstick if there's any mayo there too.

thanks alot pollyp i will be doing that today or tomorrow. when i get time. thanks alot again and by the way where does the thermostat be? sorry i don't know much about cars!

sure nainy :)
in the middle of that pic, where the tophose fits onto, is a ball shaped ally housing. its inside that.
it holds shut while the engine warms up (so that the engine warms quicker and so that the coolant only flows through the heater matrix).
when the engine is warm enough, it opens, so that the rad can shed any excess heat :)
and if you put the hosepipe into the tophose, it will flush through the rad, into the block, through the head and out near the thermostat
