another exhaust inquiry:D

ok i have a k11 1997 1.0 shape.

i obviously want to increase the performance so have decided to buy a complete janspeed exhaust.

now i have read a few thread before i wrote this one and found that it is one of the main things to do to increase the perfromance, however on a 1.0l is there a big difference, because i have heard that on a 1.3 it can increase the performance by about 20bhp?? same for the 1.0l??

also do i need the cat http://rallynuts.com/bin/products/micra_decat(1).jpg

or can i just connect these 2 together, manifold http://rallynuts.com/bin/products/EM282_manifold(1).jpg

and this exhaust http://rallynuts.com/bin/products/ES676(1).jpg

however with doing this will it be REALLY loud or just loud???

and finally (sorry for it being so long) but does n e one have an exhaust for sale or no the best (cheapest) place to get one

cheers and sorry if i have repeated something heard 100 times before.

You do not need a decat as you can use the cat currently on your car - on a 1l you will have to replace the manifold otherwise you'll almost certainly fail on emissions.
There is plenty of stuff out there with regards to Janspeed stuff, have a search, it should answer most of your questions.

You will need SOME sort of cat in between the manifold you have shown and the cat-back you have shown, be it a standard or a janspeed one. You cannot directly fit the two together without a cat in the middle because the pipes will not be long enough. If I were you I would keep the standard cat because a) replacing it will not give you much extra bhp and b) with a performance one you will certainly fail an emissions test. Also if you were to replace the whole system it would be loud as hell. As it is with a manifold and cat-back the car will be pretty noisy.

Please note, the Janspeed 'cat' is not a performance cat, it is just a silencer that is the same size as the secondary cat.

also, full Janspeed system is not horrendously loud, unless you're caning it and even then it is a pleasant sound.

yer i will use the standard cat.

thanks guys helped alot:D

also do u no wat gains i would be getting in terms of bhp etc??

Please do not use 'txt speak' :)

Not sure anyone has dyno'd their 1.0i with a Janspeed system on, but if the increase on a 1.3i is 20bhp then I would guess around 15 for the 1.0i? But I am sure that somebody out there will know the answer.

check out 'Raceworx's micra blog', he had hiss 1.3 dyno'd with just janspeed manifold and powerflow straight-through cat back and decat silencer and a k&n cone filter and got 95bhp iirc.

thats now on my car, and its soooo loud its almost shaking my car to pieces,

sounds good at 4.5k rpm tho..lol

and yeah i have a janspeed back box for sale for £80..

hi guys, I'm a bit confused on the whole exhaust replacement as well :p I have a 1.3sr and haven't modded it at all in the year and a bit I've had it....yet :

So, bearing in mind that everything is standard at the moment, is it a case of getting a new manifold and that being connected to the current cat and then should that go into an exhaust system or just replace the back box?

also is this all legal to get through MOT emissions :p thanks a lot and sorry if its obvious stuff, just confused by it all a little :) matt

On my SI io have a janspeed manifold, removing standard one and bolting up to second cat then a centre pipe and janspeed backbox, hopefully should pass mot,

Installing this isnt gonig to give you a performance increases that is as obvious as say a turbo, but this will affect all car differently due to wear and tear ect iirc..

Maybe this pic will explain a few things:
exhausting.jpg

I forgot to label the primary cat - it is the blob before the front pipe in the top picture.

nice picture.....lol take you long?....haha

naah its very good actualy, and with the 1.3 the increase over standard would be enough to make your car a whole lot faster, taking on (legaly) much faster cars than you first thaught.

you would go from about 80bhp to about 100bhp..... thats as much bhp as a 1.6 astra but with 1/2 the weight...

thanks craig :) does that mean that the second diagram you've drawn out would probably fail the MOT, obviously its no good if I cant get it through the old MOT :p

really want to add as much legal power as I can, also thinking a K&N panel filter, any other simple but effective ideas you guys have?

Now with added V6...

K&N Panel, but avoid like the plague any Micra induction that places a cone filter directly on top of the throttle, I wince every time I see one of those. If you do want to run performance filter based induction, rather than a Nissan airbox, then get some pipework and use at least 10 inches of pipe at the inlet diameter between the filter and the throttle.
