warning: Engines with variable valve timing: Mark camshafts, camshaft sprockets, camshaft adjusters and related camshaft drive system components (as applicable) with chalk or paint prior to removal or dismantling to assist alignment on installation. Note: Timing chain may NOT have coloured links. If so, apply paint to timing chain links aligned with sprocket timing marks BEFORE removal. •Removal/refitting requires:•Engine/transmission removal. •Sump removal. Note: Refer to Technical Data module for tightening torques. •Engine at TDC on No.1 cylinder 1. •Ensure camshaft sprocket timing mark and camshaft adjuster timing mark positioned as shown 2. If not, turn crankshaft 360 °. •Ensure crankshaft keyway at 12 o'clock position 3. •Align blue coloured or painted chain link with crankshaft sprocket timing mark 4. Note: Timing chain may have one blue coloured link and two orange or mauve coloured links. •Align mauve or orange coloured chain links or paint marks with camshaft sprocket timing mark and camshaft adjuster timing mark 2. Note: Ensure inlet camshaft adjuster is in the fully advanced position before removal from camshaft. •Disengage inlet camshaft adjuster internal locking pin:•Hold inlet camshaft with spanner. •Apply air pressure, using air gun, to inlet camshaft oil way 5. Use air pressure greater than 3,0 bar. •With air pressure applied, turn inlet camshaft slowly anti-clockwise in direction of arrow until internal locking pin becomes disengaged 6. A click may be heard. •As soon as the inlet camshaft adjuster starts to move independently of the inlet camshaft sprocket the internal locking pin has become disengaged. •With air pressure applied, turn inlet camshaft slowly clockwise in direction of arrow until timing marks on inlet camshaft sprocket and inlet camshaft adjuster aligned in the fully advanced position 7 & 8. Note: Inlet camshaft adjuster must be locked in fully advanced position to carry out valve timing procedure. •Reset tensioner:•Compress tensioner plunger 9. •Retain in position with wire clip 10. •Refit timing chain tensioner. •Remove wire clip 10. •Lubricate crankshaft pulley bolt during assembly. •Tighten crankshaft pulley bolt to 132 - 152 Nm 11. •Tighten camshaft sprocket bolt to 78 - 88 Nm . •Tighten camshaft adjuster bolt to 78 - 88 Nm . •Camshaft rotation can be prevented using spanner on hexagon.
