Upper oil pan removal

Anybuddy got some advice for a old man besides "Employ a younger one"!!

I'm renewing my timing chain on an 04 K12.

I can't get the upper oil pan completely off!!
There is obviously a lip at the rear of the pan that is preventing removal.
By slackening the gearbox bolts I've managed to get it low enough to get to the strainer bolt so I have got the timing cover off but not the pan.
Do I really need to take the pan off? Bit awkward to clean the surfaces for goo but OK.
How awkward is it to remove & refit the gearbox is it worth it just to get the upper pan fully off?

Thanks in advance!... Please!

Well back up & running & I got some bits left over to build another car! :blues:

 A bracket to be honest! & a broken bracket at that.

On the loom about level with the bell housing at the back of the engine there is a bracket that steadies the loom, "L" shaped, the upright steadies the loom & the bottom bolts to the ?????? with two bolts!

Huh! Ive hunted, I've searched, I've mirrored but for the love of me I can't find where this should be bolted to! Not a spare m8 thread in site!

Any clues?
