Rusty fuel neck

Ive just bought a 2006 micra but when I filled up with petrol to my surprise, inside the rim where the petrol cap goes is pretty rusty.

Is this a common thing on these cars? I'm worried that water will be getting into the tank....

It happened in my Primera - the drainage hole was blocked, so all water (from rain and washing) wasn't draining, leading to rust.

I just broke out all the rusted metal in mine and repaired it with gaffer tape. Not perfect, but it never got worse.

Thanks for the responses. I may look at replacing the neck if it gets worse.

I have only had the car a few days, my last car was a fabia vrs and you could say I miss the power but this little micra seems to be able to handle corners at almost any speeds and the ride is very comfortable over our pot holed roads. Nice little car

Yeah I love my K12. What it lacks in raw power, it makes up for with handling.

My K12 Just failed its m.o.t due to a rusty filler neck. Need to source a new one asap.

Had the same problem on my 53 k12. I work at garage so cost me next to nothing to fix simple job. Also i widened the drainage hole a little bit before fitting not had a single problem since.
