K12 Chugging

My Micra is a K12 1.2 Sport (2006) and has 95,000 kms on the clock.

It recently began to chugg while driving and it apppeared to lose power slightly, but it didn't die out.

Also, when on my driveway, it chuggs intermittently while idling.

Any assistance with this query would be very much appreciated.

Frank

Thanks for responding - much appreciated!

No, I do not have any fault codes as such.

As I stated, my Micra is a K12 1.2 Sport (2006) and has 95,000 kms on the clock.

It recently began to chugg while driving and it apppeared to lose power slightly, but it didn't die out.

Also, when on my driveway, it chuggs intermittently while idling.

However, this morning (Tuesday), it began to chugg even more than it was doing, especially when driving and has much less power than before. Also, the Malfunction Indicator Light has now appeared and remains on.

I went to a local garage today, but they can't look at it until tomorrow morning.

I reside in Ireland (Republic of) and have the car two years, having purchased it in March 2012. It has been regularly serviced and has recently passed an NCT (National Car Test) and passed with flying colours. It isn't due to be retested until June 2016.

Mines was doing that, it would idle up and down between 500 n 1000 rpm, I cleaned out the throttle body n it seems to have fixed the problem, idles perfect now

Richie

Here's hoping that that is what is wrong with my Micra and that cleaning out the throttle body will fix the problem! I have found it to be a good car until the last couple of days!

We've had this one in the family 6 years n it's been great, it's worth a try anyway, I done it myself just to see, before sending it to a mechanic

Yes, as I've stated, I've had this Micra since March 2012 and it's been great.

I wouldn't be a mechanic myself, so I'm relying on experts to know what they are talking about!

I had my Nissan Micra K12 checked today at a local garage, but because they are very busy, they couldn't give it a full check-up until early next week.

I didn't get any information with regard to a 'fault code', but I was informed that there is a problem with compression and that two cylinders may need replacing. I was also asked where I bought my petrol for the car.

Hopefully, more positive news early next week!

Yea try a 2nd opinion
So replacing cylinders is not an option?!

With regard to getting a secnd opinion, I'm actually doing that tomorrow morning. My Micra is actually running worse then ever today and I'm even afraid to drive it just locally.

Being asked about where I purchased my petrol made me a little concerned because there has been talk locally of alledged 'petrol stretching'.

maybe something was lost in translation but the cylinders are cast/fixed into the block sean.
if 2 adjoining cylinders are low on compression it could point to a failed fire ring on the head gasket, and 2 random cylinders might point to burnt exhaust valves

Frank, if 2 adjoining cylinders are low on compression and it could point to a failed fire ring on the head gasket, is this a major issue cost wise?

If 2 random cylinders are the problem, which might point to burnt exhaust valves, is this a major price issue too? Sorry for all the questions - you can tell that I'm not a car expert.

a head gasket change would cost 500 ish at a garage sean, and burnt valves about 200 more (they would,nt re-use the head gasket to fit the valves)
so adding paraffin to petrol is pretty rife in eire then ?

Sounds pricey to me, Frank!

With regard to adding paraffin to petrol being pretty rife in Eire, I'm not sure, but there been a lot of talk locally in recent weeks with regard to kerosene being added to petrol and causing untold damage to cars.

I'm not sure if this is the issue with my Micra, but I was asked today where I purchased my petrol, which made me a little concerned to say the least!

I had my Nissan Micra K12 checked out on Saturday with a second local mechanic and he diagnosed that the car needed a new Coil Pack (of the four, No.3 was faulty) and when that was fitted, the car needed 1 new spark plug.

The initial 'fault code' was 0303. There was not a problem with regard to compression, which the mechanic said was 100%.

Total cost of the work was €70.00.

Cheers, Richie - much appreciated!

I'm very relieved.

Living in this country without a car is a nightmare as our transport system wouldn't be like that in the UK.

My Micra is essential as both myself and my wife have health issues (I have MS and my wife is a diabetic and a coeliac) and we need the car for getting to hospital appointments and such like.

Yes, a great result! Thank you (and thanks to Frank too!) for suggesting that I get a second opinion!

On Saturday 1 November 2014, I had my Nissan Micra K12 checked out, with a second local mechanic, and he diagnosed that the car needed a new Coil Pack (of the four, No.3 was faulty) and when that was fitted, the car needed 1 new spark plug.

The initial 'fault code' was 0303. There was not a problem with regard to compression, which the mechanic said was 100%. The total cost of the work was €70.00.

On Wednesday (5 Nov 2014), the car appeared to be making a grinding sound but only when I attempted to accelerate. Then, on Thursday (6 Nov 2014), the oil light began to come on intermittently, particularly at start-up and occasionally when driving. The car appears to have adequate oil, so perhaps it's something to do with an oil sensor and/or faulty contacts on wiring.

Thanks, Frank!

When you say that the noise in my Micra K12 might be alternator belt slip, is this a big job to rectify?

With regard to the oil level being OK, the car had an oil change recently, so it should be fine.

I had checked the oil this morning and it appeared to be OK - well, I'm not a mechanic!

I had the car checked this afternoon and it turns out that it was low, very low, in oil.

The Micra K12 takes 4 litres of oil and my car needed 3 litres to bring it up to an acceptable level. The thing is I had an oil change in June, so it appears that I may have been done.

Thanks, Richie!

Thanks, Richie!

As per your suggestion, I will keep an eye on it and check the oil every few weeks, just in case it's burning oil.

My local mechanic is calling on Monday evening next at 7:30pm to take the car and check it over for me, especially since he had to fill it with 3 litres of oil in order to bring it up to an acceptable level. The thing that grieves me is that I had an oil change in June, so it appears that that may not have been done.
