Fund raising ideas

Need some help :)

My partner has decided that she wants to raise money for cancer research but doesn't know what she wants to do.

What would you do?

How about looking for one of those big organised sponsored events? The kind where if she can collect enough sponsorship, she do something cool like a big abseil or a half marathon? have a look here.

Last year the Mother of a colleague at work Shaved her head!...Bit extreme, perhaps, but she raised over £100...I thought she should have got alot more to be fair :(
...I mean I gave her £30 but that was about a month after the fact...had i known i could have got my neighbours to donate and done a collection around my local supermarket etc...
It such a good cause but if no-one knows about it, you aren't gonna attract the cash <_<
...You gotta make sure you advertise whatever you decide to do...Flyers, Facebook, Twitter ....try phoning up your local rag and see if they will let you some advertising space either free of at vastly reduced rates ...The more people that know, the more you're likely to be able to raise ;)
I think you can often advertise for free on Radio websites Such as Jack FM http://jackfmoxfordshire.co.uk/jacktivities tell them you're raising money and they may even hit you up on air...you never know :p
I think with permission from the charity you can set up paypal account for people to donate to...tweet some celebs maybe...you don't have to go that far though ;)
Good luck Celina

Another colleague of mine did a 10K run I think (the great south run, portsmouth) a couple of years back...she raised about £450...she's in her 60's! next one's not until October though...

Sorry for not keeping this updated... The whole reason I was asking was just over 2 weeks ago my mum was diagnosed with lung cancer (please no sympathy) and not only does Celina want ideas but I want to do something outrageous.

So far (for myself) I've come up with the idea of taking a pedal car around Britain but I've not worked out the finer points, what do you lot think, is it a stupid idea?

I know you said no sympathy but **** man, sorry to hear that :( Pedal car round Britain? Sounds epic and that's the thing to do, no question

I think the pedal car would be awesome, but I'd have to work out places to stay/eat and how long I'd need off work.

The only real bonus would be I work for quite a big company so positive publicity would work in their favour

When you're pedalling through Sheffield I'll make you a brew ;)

First thing that would come to anyones mind involving great heights would be a skydive?
Or something like an attempt at climbing Ben Nevis? Would need to be a group to do that though to be fair!

~

Make it down without crashing. I have exhausting just trying to hold on :L
No but some sort of cycle? doesnt have to be the length of the UK :p

It's well good fun all you need to do is hold on and let gravity do most of the work :p, just alot more physically demanding than you think.

Pedal car does sound great, but as you said, which way do you go, where do you stay, would you also need a police escort...logistically perhaps too challenging/expensive...etc...

my mum has done a couple of abseils for Macmillan...was a while back...she raised a couple of hundred pounds each time.
I see you're really wanting something with a lot more...Ommph!...though
...and Chogy is desperate for you to be in the nudie LOL

A bake sale is out of the question then?...I wouldn't recommend nudity...Sorry Chogy :p

ETA: When is the next flying man thing?....

ETA2: http://www.worthingbirdman.co.uk/ Hmmm 143 days...

Spotted an advert in my local rag (Portsmouth "The News") and there is a "tower running" event at the end of the month, 100Metre sprint...straight up!
not that I can find the article now, sorry <_<...they are doing abseil events too though ;) http://www.spinnakertower.co.uk/

although...the spinnaker tower may be too far to travel but there are other tall building where this kind of thing can be done...Perhaps not really out there but it's still a bit different
