160sr Gear knob removal help!

I know this has been asked many times but how do you remove the gear knob on a K12?

I bought my girlfriend a suichuuka flower knob and I'm eager to get it on!

Some say cut it off the original and some say twist it anti clockwise, I've tried twisting it but it just kinda clunks in 90 degree intervals, sat there turning it for ages but it wouldn't lift off! Cutting isnt an option, want to retain all original parts for when (if ever) she parts with it.

Help me out here guys! These trivial setbacks aren't good for self esteem!

I'm sure someone did this on a K12 without cutting
...I'll have a search in a jiffy :p

the only thing I can suggest is to remove some of the surrounding centre console trim (around the handbrake etc...) and get under the leather gaitor to have a look at the actual stick itself?
(see if there is a thread to unscrew, which there should be?)

ETA: found a few threads with posts that may help...I haven't read them all :p

Might I also suggest having a look through markbognor's posts/threads...as I know that he makes pool/snooker ball gear kn0bs...he may be able to help you figure out how to swap 'em without causing damage ;)

also the member most knowledgable about K12's...and I'm sure has changed his gear kn0b, is Guy ;)

Cheers!

I've read up that it turns 90 degrees left and lifts off, so surely its not threaded :S

I hope it does though as the new one is beautiful (not sure if the pictures shown up, I've had complaints before haha)

are you tugging at it by hand?...perhaps use some grippers/pliers if you can, for grip to apply a more direct force
...use something squishy over the kn0b first so it doesn't get scratched damaged ;)
perhaps it's just really stiff?

...that reply would be rather dodgy, out of context LOL

Tee hee :D I'm childish n I don't care :p

I'll give it a go on the weekend perhaps, don't wanna force it if it doesn't lift off, want some direct advice from some who's been there and done it. Haha

And I'm not easily offended!

Did my image show up?

Yep, I can see the image...not my kinda thing...but the flower's are purrty...I hope your GF loves it ;)
good luck getting it off
...I just wish I could find a reference to Guy's (I'm positive he's changed his <_<)

I did Jen but I basically cut through it most of the way then inserted a screwdriver and cracked it off in two pieces. Would be a miracle to get it off any other way .

ah...I see :(

ETA: would it be easy enough to get a stick from the scrappy...take/cut the kn0b off and fix the new shiney one to that...take out the original (keep it safe) I mean change the whole stick?... o_O
