What do you mean by Christmas Tree gaskets? The other day I removed the inlet trumpet and fully blocked the airbox hole. The engine still ran, even beyond 3000rpm -air must be getting in somewhere.

It's been regularly serviced, with quality parts and treated fairly carefully. The timing chain hasn't broken(!) and the fault is intermittent, usually in colder conditions.

Cheers. Where is the idle control valve situated? I'm assuming that the idle is controlled by a second motor feathering the throttle to maintain engine speed? The car had a service last weekend, where it showed no faults on the diagnostics. ps. I removed and re-fitted the Hitachi throttle...

I had posted another thread about it. The problem is a rough idle and intermittent stalling on closed throttle. From experience of other cars, I'd assumed a sensor could be responding with a slight delay. I'd intended to clean the air mass meter. Cheers

No. It's also been plugged into a diagnostics reader and shown no codes... It's possible that the throttle position provides the air flow measure, but that may not be accurate enough.

What are the sensor inputs for the K12 1.2 tickover? I've been told that there's no MAF, but it can't be completely open-loop, so there must be some sensors. Presumably there are: Throttle position sensor Exhaust Oxygen Intake temperature Coolant temperature Anything else? Which...

So, what *is* the solution?

That would explain why I couldn't see it then. It's an 03 car with about 40K miles It idles unevenly and sometimes stalls. So, what are the likely causes?

That's a bit hit n' miss though. I'd like to have a look at it and see if it needs a more thorough clean

My wife's Micra is suffering the poor idle and stalling problem. On ford and VAG cars I've cleaned the MAF in the past which has helped. The Micra inlet is a bit awkward to get into! I was expecting to see a Platinum wire in the inlet duct and went as far as removing the throttle body...
