Lumpy idle and frequent stalling - The solution!

My wife's K12 1.2s has had a stalling and idling problem for a while now. Diagnostics showed no faults logged and cleaning the inlet and throttle had no effect. It turned out that one of the exhaust gas sensors, although reading correctly at medium to high engine speeds, was reading very low...

    cuts out when cold

What do you mean by Christmas Tree gaskets? The other day I removed the inlet trumpet and fully blocked the airbox hole. The engine still ran, even beyond 3000rpm -air must be getting in somewhere.

    cuts out when cold

My wife's car has exactly the same symptoms. She told me it was bad, but I've borrowed it today and it's worse than I imagined. It stalled about 10 times in 20 minutes. My observations: When slowing down in gear, as the engine speed reduces towards 1000rpm, the engine power will often die...

    poor tickover/stalling

I know this is an old thread, but where exactly was this 'crack' in the airbox? Cheers.

How to clean the Mass Air Meter?

It's been regularly serviced, with quality parts and treated fairly carefully. The timing chain hasn't broken(!) and the fault is intermittent, usually in colder conditions.

    K12 engine closed-loop control sensors?

Cheers. Where is the idle control valve situated? I'm assuming that the idle is controlled by a second motor feathering the throttle to maintain engine speed? The car had a service last weekend, where it showed no faults on the diagnostics. ps. I removed and re-fitted the Hitachi throttle...

    K12 engine closed-loop control sensors?

I had posted another thread about it. The problem is a rough idle and intermittent stalling on closed throttle. From experience of other cars, I'd assumed a sensor could be responding with a slight delay. I'd intended to clean the air mass meter. Cheers

How to clean the Mass Air Meter?

ps. It must have closed-loop control of some sort to allow for changes in ambient conditions. The map will have various inputs.

    K12 engine closed-loop control sensors?

No. It's also been plugged into a diagnostics reader and shown no codes... It's possible that the throttle position provides the air flow measure, but that may not be accurate enough.

    K12 engine closed-loop control sensors?

http://www.bba-reman.com/content.aspx?content=nissan_dtc_p0107_0108_map_sensor DTC P0107, P0108 MANIFOLD ABSOLUTE PRESSURE (MAP) SENSOR Component Description A sensitive silicon diaphragm in the sensor responds to change in pressure. It is a corrector; it detects intake manifold...

    K12 engine closed-loop control sensors?

What are the sensor inputs for the K12 1.2 tickover? I've been told that there's no MAF, but it can't be completely open-loop, so there must be some sensors. Presumably there are: Throttle position sensor Exhaust Oxygen Intake temperature Coolant temperature Anything else? Which...

How to clean the Mass Air Meter?

    So, what *is* the solution?

How to clean the Mass Air Meter?

That would explain why I couldn't see it then. It's an 03 car with about 40K miles It idles unevenly and sometimes stalls. So, what are the likely causes?

How to clean the Mass Air Meter?

That's a bit hit n' miss though. I'd like to have a look at it and see if it needs a more thorough clean

How to clean the Mass Air Meter?

My wife's Micra is suffering the poor idle and stalling problem. On ford and VAG cars I've cleaned the MAF in the past which has helped. The Micra inlet is a bit awkward to get into! I was expecting to see a Platinum wire in the inlet duct and went as far as removing the throttle body...
