    Operating systems

Mac OS X is based on Nextstep, which is a BSD Unix OS. Windows NT has more in common with OS/2, and there is no evidence and not really any rumours to suggest that Windows stole code from Apple. Windows XP and decent AV such as AVG is all you need. The built-in Windows firewall is more than...

    Cylinder Head Gasket

Taking the thermostat out will effect the engine in other ways - it was designed, even when open, to have a fairly tight restriction at that point. It does sound like you've managed to lose the gasket between the combustion chamber and a waterway. It is possible to run a MA engine for a long...

    Engine idle/cut out problem

Wow... that was an epic journey. Easiest way to sort these problems is take it to someone who has worked with carburetted, points ignition cars. There really is so little that can go wrong, and someone who knows what they are doing can sort it out in 15 minutes.

    Brake Lights

Yes, as long as you have the two original brake lights, you can have more. Only requirements are they need to be rear facing, red, and technically between 15 and 36 watts (or equivalent). You can have as many position lights as you want, they need to be red and rear facing as well. I still...

To the computer wiz out there

In the UK, you are covered by more than the warranty. The Sale of Goods Act means that the goods should last a reasonably length of time, up to 7 years. Most suppliers of electrical goods will bow to pressure if you try.

To the computer wiz out there

Most PC power supplies are the same these days (ATX), but the two PB PCs I have fixed in the last 2 years have both had non-standard motherboard plugs on them - so I wouldn't be able to say for sure.

That'd be called ignoring the bit in the instructions that tells you not to use it on soft surfaces and block the vents.

To the computer wiz out there

Failure rates in Dells are totally in line with HP over a 3 year period. So that's just a random anecdote based on a few PCs you have seen break? New? They've been about since PCs have been about.

    Cutting braided hose

It's just to stop the rubber part of it burning really, it's such easy work for the saw that it doesn't matter how hard you push.

    Cutting braided hose

I find that cable cutters (the large ones where the blade overlaps, not snips where they just meet) are ok for cutting the small stuff. Bigger stuff cuts quite well in a chop saw if you tape it and ram the saw down as quickly as possible.

    Need Help With Exhaust Reducer

Just get under the car and measure it. Fairly sure it's a standard diameter, so any decent exhaust place should have a reducer.

Wierd ECU style box under drivers seat

Sounds too small to me Arnold. But a picture would make it obvious.
