the first thing i did was to change the front windscreen jets for the chrome ones from halfords as one of them was blocked.
the next thing i did was change the gear knob and pedals i also put on my msc stickers, next up was a painted rocker cover in orange thanks to micka.
next was some foglights/ driving lights thanks to rydan79

next up was tacho, voltmeter and oil pressure gauges.

i then decided to get alloys after going through 2 sets of wheel trims, i brought some 15" alloys from floodie.

next up was some seat covers and a cone filter that i got from the jap shop, the cone filter will be relocated soon.

next up was a sportex 3" backbox, shortly followed by a "frankspeed" mani that i had from kamisama as well has his 1.3 engine(more on that in future plans).

next up was a custom battery clamp that was on for a while and then that got swapped with a custom battery box that my dad made up. pics, full spec list and future plans to come shortly.

Right so, i've been here a little while posting here and there but i've not showed anyone the micra at all yet, i've also left a warning on one of my earlier threads saying i talk alot so if this drags on forgive me,

I'm currently a full time student, passed my test on the 25th of august this year and my pass plus this tuesday and now my folks have passed on their lovely 11 year old micra to me (FACELIFT!).

A bit about the car itself, its the facelift shape, fire red, no front fogs, chrome/shiny upper grill outlining, full set of mudguards, all completely stock and untouched and now the good part...no pas, aircon, abs, electric windows, central locking, apserlutely nothing, just a plain car, the way i like it!.

Condition of the car, generally quite good, outer body is great, couple of bruises here and there, some deep ones but can slowly be sorted out, front crossmember looks like its getting a fair bit rusty, as does the majority of the underside of the car (Rears worse then front) and the sills look like they'l need a good sorting out.

Enough paragraphs of talk! whats planned for the car? not much really, although i want to get it reconditioned as much as i can back to factory/stock, want to sort the rust out desperately and to iron out any current problems (Odd clicking, tweeting alternator belts, naff rear tyres.)

Whats first on the list? a good clean, give it a good wash and wax all by hand, and then moved on to hoovering the inside like crazy (Its 11 years old and has had to sport 3 young kids ;) ) a good wipe over and polish.

The result?

From This,

I laughed when i spotted something on the second image ;).

To This,

(Now you know why they call it fire red eh..)

And last of all, 1 beauty shot ;).

I'll get some of the stock interior tommorow, its looking quite bright and fresh now also!

At the moment i'm having a problem with my left headlight seal, the lights condensed up :( also the glass was broken for the rear window a couple of months back so now the rear middle light isn't fitted properly and keeps tapping the glass (Annoying.)

And the only other problem really is a ticking dizzy? (I think)

But other then that i'll start cleaning the car up (Underside and engine bay) and its quite dirty and keep you guys informed with progress, will get signed up to MSC when i get some cash too (Real membership ;) )

Cheers,
Migs

As a new member to MSC i thought that i would share with you a process that i did with a 1.0 K11 here in Norway.

Please excuse my lack of perfect written english as i go along :)

This little cutie was bought as a car for my daughter so she could have something to practice on while training for a drivers license.

Never did I know what that would lead to as I got quite involved in the car in the time before she got the license...

Here are some snapshots of the car when I bought it :

Bought it locally for a good price and gave it into the hands of a mate and he spent an hour with the rubb & dubb machine :

Good man i must say !

Ok , so far so good.
Now to the stuff that I was interested in and that’s what resides inside here:

As an avid and happy enthusiast , specially when it comes to engines , I was longing to do something with this little poor engine in here. Small engine = small gains they say , but could we get some serious numbers out of it , at least as percentage gain compared to a stock ontouched engine ?

What are the actual numbers , even from small modifications , that a enthusiast could acheive by simple means ?
Questions like this are to be answered i think so off i went with this project :)

Having done my fair share of work with all kinds of engines i thought it could be an excellent opportunity to experiment and play with on my DYNAPACK :

The Dynapack is a brilliant tool to find even the smallest gain in Hp / Nm and its all measured directly on the hubs and its repeatability is excellent.

So here in this thread I will show some of the results that I have lured out of this K11 and some of the tricks that you can use on your car.

Some of the first things I did was to check and test the condition of the engine before any work was started :

First I took a compression test to find out what kind of pressure this little mini-monster cranked out :

This simple little tool gives me the readings of each cylinder and its condition relating to cranking pressure.

First , out goes the spark plugs :

And here you can see one of the readings :

After all is done you will get some numbers :

The engine has run 130 000 km so the result is ok.

Time for cylinder leakage test. Here you pressurize each cylinder to compare numbers and to find out exactly where eventually any leakage exists :

This test tells you if you have leaking valves , headgasket , blown piston rings etc etc.

If You iex. open the throttle valve completely and listen as the pressure is entering the cylinder and hear a whistling noise in the inlet manifold , well then there could be a chance of a leaking inlet valve.

Same if you put you ear into the exit of the exhaust pipe , and hear a clear swooshing air sound in the pipe , then your exhaust valve could have seen better days in that cylinder and so on…

Here is the result of the cylinder-leakage test :
img]http://www.raceinfo.no/temp/tn_syllekk.jpg[/img]
Quite normal for a fully operational and in good working order engine with that mileage.

Ok , now I have established and found a baseline for the engine and it condition so now to something that is quite important to get some correct baseline numbers on the dynapack :

I check the spark plugs to see that they are of the right heat range and type to be in this engine :

There are many issues with spark plugs that makes or brakes a successful engine.

This little fellow here is by far probably not the right stuff to produce absolute maximum figures but I will get back to that later and show you the magic…

Measuring the ignition cables is also of value when you want to develop any engine set up so i dug out the ohm-meter and did all cables :

Here is the measured values for all cables :

Note how different lenght give different reading.
Will get back to this later.

So , there you are. A baseline for the project and now its time for some real numbers to pop up from the screen on the Dynapack.

TODAYS QUIZZ :
Anyone care to guess what the power and Nm for this little car is in dead stock trim ?

More to come….

My facelift K11

Hello. I've been a forum member for a short while now just lurking around, and so I thought I would start my own blog of my Micra. This isn't going to be anything special inside the car – such as no engine work due to the fact I have not much money. But in the future I may plan to put a turbo in it – might be fun! But for now, mainly interior and exterior modifications are going to happen.

Anyway, a little about me, I'm 17 and just got my license and am still in school, but I’ve still got enough time to work on my car and keep the modifications going.

And now the car. I bought the car about 6 months ago, and I'll admit, it wasn't the best car I could have wished for at the time. However, I was happy to have one of my own, no matter what it was. With being into cars since I can remember, I wanted to 'mod' it. I've never been into aggressive body kits or massive wheels, but always admired the 'euro' styled cars or at least ones that are sleek and subtle. I want my car to look really nice, but don’t want it to stand out ridiculously in front of every other car on the road. So I am still not 100% sure on the colour – probably going to go for the white look. Although it turns out there's a lot of Micra's on here that I wouldn’t mind mine to look like and could definitely name a few.

It took a month or so before I even took a photo of my Micra so here it is with a few modifications already done, which are listed below.

Smooth Boot-
First thing I did when I got the car was remove all the stickers and logos from the tailgate. Then replaced the facelift boot handle for a different one which I believe looks much better and will eventually colour-coded it. I also tried the horizontal wiper mod, but wasn't confident on actually cutting the internals up, but while it was off the car I had just left the hole in the back of the car. And found out that I very rarely use the rear wiper so decided to keep it removed and so then sold it to peposhi.

Boot Lights-
I bought some clear Micra indicators of eBay cheap, they work really well and they are much brighter than my old ones. Well one was broken anyway so needed a new pair whatever. I have left the key hole on the boot where it should be because some people remove it or change where it is. To be honest I think it looks fine where it is.

Colour-Coded Door Handles-
Simple to do, makes the car look better, but took a couple of days to get them back onto the car. Had to put my hand through the window wind the windows up as much as possible and slip my hand out when I left it over those days. Got a few looks when I went to get back in.

So that's it for now, I' think I've caught up with my progress. I've done one more thing since these photos. Update coming soon with more pictures. Comments welcome.

Here is my to-do list over the next 6 months (hopefully sooner):

1.	Remove side bumpstrips
2.	Colour-code front and rear bumpstrips/guard
3.	Get a body Kit
4.	Black out headlights
5.	Remove mudflaps
6.	Get some JDM rear lights
7.	Steering wheel and boss kit
8.	Racing seats – recliner
9.	Buy and fit subwoofer
10.	Super S spoiler
11.	13” wheels
12.	Full re-spray – still deciding on the colour.

If you want to know where I got any of the products from, I can give you the link or I can get them for you. Comments welcome.

It has only done 80k and his grandad just had new rear shoes and cylinders both sides and a sill welded for MOT. Its not in bad nick few odd little scratches and small dents.

I bought it really to clean up and sell but after spending a whole day cleaning it ive decided to keep it and insurance is only £23 a month and tax is cheap.

Its not quick seeing as my last car was a 205gti but like i said its cheap to run and should help me keep my licence.

Im trying to make it not look so old mans car but on the cheap so far all i have done is sprayed the steel wheels gloss black and fitted a cd player.

Im thinking of lowering it on the steel wheels as its abit wobbly at speed. Would 35mm be enough and would it just be a case of old springs off an new ones on.

Induction kit and back box as there cheap on ebay.

Also maybe a few stickers.

Also how can i make the front look abit more mean?

Anyway let me know what you think and any ideas would be appreciated.

Hello. I've been a forum member for a while now just lurking around, but after a few mods I thought it was about time I got my own blog. This isn't going to be anything special, just going to be a simple little everyday family car, which my mum is going to learn to drive in, so nothing too wild So this is just a little blog updating my progress.

Anyway, a little about me, I'm 22 and just finished uni, which means I've got a lot of time on my hands, most of it going into the car.

And now the car. It was given to me by my grandad when he stopped driving, and which I'll admit wasn't the best car I could have wished for at the time. However, having only drove my dads car and his company cars rarely over the years, I was happy to have one of my own, no matter what it was. But after a few days of driving it like an old granny changing gears before the powerband I started learning the engine and I Loved it - it's such an underated car when you drive it right.

With being into cars since I can remember, I wanted to 'mod' it. I've never been into aggressive body kits or massive wheels, but always admired the 'euro' styled cars or atleast ones that are sleek and subtle. But all the moddified micra's I've seen around town have looked like all the corsa's and nova's, with ripspeed alloys and limo tints and 4"backboxes, so when I saw this site I named my nickname euro_micra to put forward my intentions from the start that this is no chav'y car. Although it turns out there's a lot of micra's on here that I would'nt mind mine to look like.

It took a month or so before I even took a photo of my micra so here it is with a few modifications already done, which are listed below.

Cg13 camshafts-
Bought these from Sulur and fitted 'em a while after recieving them. Followed the haynes manual with a mate who knows what he's doin', went in ok and started fine, but when I took it out for a test drive it was crazy, took ages to pull out in first, as if I put it into 2nd or left the handbrake on, revs would barely go up, put it into second, foot to floor, slowly crept up to 30 then woosh it was off. Powerband was way too high for my liking, but the sound was amazing, like a little race car, was probably not doing the car any favours and cut out at junctions, but sounded like the exhaust could be spitting flames lol. So had to fiddle with advancing the inlet cam and retarding the exhaust(new experiences for me), but got a set up that I liked, and now has that extra pull around 4-5krpm, compared to 1litre cams, but still got the power at 6k which sounds very v-tec'y. Bear in mind I have a limited knowledge of tuning engines so I'm saying all this based on my own experiences compared to stock.

GA16 Airbox and K&N Airfilter-
2nd performance modification, has a noticable performance increase but nothing compared to the 1.3 cams. Just slightly better throttle response imo. Noise can be easily be reduced or increased be changing the length of the cold air feed too, I found. I have a 4" tubing reducing to 2.5" going into the box, the longer the 2.5" the quieter it becomes. I've got it so it's quite untill you put you foot down then it growls a bit, but still understated.

Smooth Boot-
First thing I did when I got the car was remove all the stickers and logos from the tailgate. Then replaced the facelift boot handle for a facelifted facelift one and filled and smoothed all the handle down and colour-coded it. I also tried the horizontal wiper mod, but wasn't confident on actually cutting the internals up, but while it was off the car I had a grommit plugging the hole. And found out that I very very really use the rear wiper so decided to keep it removed, it looked better that way too. But got bored with how the tailgate looked uncomplete. So I removed the lock, then fibreglassed the wiper and the lock hole, filled, sanded, smoothed it down and repainted, was supprisingly easy, but not a perfect finish. Also fitted a solenoid with a push button in the blanking plate on the centre dash, and also fitted a hidden key-switch under the boot handle to unlock it from outside. Also painted 'micra' on mudflaps black.
My dog always gets in the way lol

Lowered 45mm-
Frank's blog came in handy for me with this as I could'nt afford lowering springs. So it was Matiz springs for me, lowered the front about 45-50mm which was an ideal height for everyday driving, but really wanted to lower the rear to match, so kept checking ebay for other cheap springs from small hatcbacks, and ended up with sum brand-new punto lowering springs for about £8, fitted ok with rubbers removed, lowered a little bit but was uncaptive when jacked up. However I tried some polo/lupo lowering springs and they fit nicely with the rubbers removed and still just captive when jacked up but only lower the micra about 40mm, but at least it's at an even ride height. And does scrape some speed-humps.

Boot Lights-
I bought some clear micra indicators of ebay cheap, but the guy who sold 'em sent me some cheap universal ones instead and wouldn't return my money, and after a month of messin' about I gave in trying to get the ones I ordered. So I sat bored one day wondering what I could do with them, and within a few mins I was pokeing holes in the carpet-trim, replacing the bulbs with old sidelight ones and wiring up a switch to turn them on when the boot opens. Just a nice little feature that helps out at night. Might set one up for the glovebox next.
Switch pressed down:

Chrome Wheel Trims and Pre-Facelift PlasticTrims-
'cos big plastic trims are crap. Painted two of the wheels black and two blue, couldn't decide which I prefered so I kept them both lol, one colour per side.

Colour-Coded Door Handles-
Simple to do, make the car look better, but took a couple of days to get them back onto the car lol. Had to put my hand through the window wind the windows up as much as possible and slip my hand out when I left it over those days. Got a few looks when I went to get back in.

Carbon-Fibre Gearknob-
Was looking for a simple round gearknob for under £20, there was none, then this richbrook carbonfibre one came up on ebay for less than a fiver, nice shape, so got it as only bidder. Don't like carbon fibre for the sake of being carbon fibre, ie for show. so I painted it black. Also made a custom made gaitor and surround.

Upgraded Bulbs-
Phillips crystal white headlights, looks class on a blue car imo pure white, much better than ordinary orangey ones. Sidelights to match. Chrome indicator bulbs, cheap and removes the egg yolk effect and makes the headlights look more crystaly lol. And blue dash bulbs.

DIY Stealth Parcel Shealf-
There's a bunch of guides out there tellin you how to make one, mines no different really just done slightly cheaper with thiner mdf screwed underneath existing parcel shealf. Works well and looks stock when viewed from outside, which is what I wanted.

and another photo of the car, and my dog again, always in the way.

So that's it for now, I' think I've caught up with my progress. I've done one more thing since these photos and that's put on some new wheels. Update coming soon with pics. Comments welcome.

I do have a small to-do list aswel:
remove side bumpstrips
colour-code front and rear bumpstrips/guard
